On the wild west coast not far from Auckland City is Piha Beach, well known among the International surfing fraternity. Piha is one of several beaches on the dramatic Tasman Sea coastline & is dominated by Lion Rock, in the foreground - the core of a long-extinct volcano, which, in effect, splits the beach in two. The other formation at the far end is the Camel (because it has two humps!). Piha is one of the black sand beaches whose magnetic sands fascinate visitors. I take tourists here on a regular basis, sometimes several time a week. Incidentally this photo was taken on my iphone 4.

Only if you pay attention to the human figure, you realize the size of the rocks!
Excellent composition, technically very good!

This one brings back nice memories from 2004. It is a great beach and so close to Auckland, and still on the other side of the island. You have better weather than we had. Good framing, and I like that stream flowing to sea. Good to see those people over there. Otherwise it would be totally impossible to estimate the scale of this view.
