Photographer’s Note
Here you see the full moon rising above the Auckland harbour bridge, and behind it the volcanic cone of Rangitoto island. I had taken my kayak out for an evening paddle, hoping to get a good sunset shot from a shell bank on the inner harbour, but as it turned out the perspective was crap. The sun went down and feeling a little disappointed I started packing my gear, then I turned around and saw the moon just clearing Rangitoto, looking very big and yellow - wow! I wasn't expecting that, and it looked fab. I set up the tripod and camera again, but I was in such a hurry I stuffed up the first few shots,by which time the moon had risen past the point of what I would have considered to be the perfect position, never mind. This is the best I got, which I'm not unhappy about although it's not perfect. Watch this space for an improved version some time in the future. It might be a while though, since this this place can only be accessed by boat, at high tide, so to get a repeat shot the (full) moonrise has to coincide with high tide, plus the weather has to co -operate...

Hi, Alex,
no wonder you weren't disappointed. That's incredible. I love the layers of clouds and the off centered moon rising behind them making that amazing reflection on the water. I like the line of the bridge lights and the depth is wonderful. Excellent sharp detail, too. This is a beautiful shot. Well done! Many thanks and kind regards,
Shelly
