Photographer’s Note
Hello to my TE friend here!
Sharing with you apart from my usual coastal scenery for a change!
I had posted once before on this landmark of Auckland "One Tree Hill" and Moari name "Maungakiekie" looking up from the Campbell Park down below, and this one is looking one step closer to the top of the One Tree Hill!
The park's donor, Sir John Logan Campbell was buried along side the obelisk that you see here, there was a huge single Totara pine tree along side the obelisk before 2001, but was put down for safety reason after attacked by the Moari protestors!
Here you see in closer view the most intricate volcanic cone fortress dating way back in time for the Moari people on their living terraces, defensive ditches and banks etc.,
Hope you can enjoy it and like it also many thanks for your time!
Wishing everyone a good WE!
Cheers from Auckland!!

Hi,
You've found the perfect point of view so that we believe it's the countryside around.
I also noticed that I was in Auckland when you took this picture in december 2006 ;-)

Hello Tony!
I like this one very much because of the shapes it has (the hill and the monument - the match so perfectly), the natural and beautiful colors (green is so beautiful in here), and the excellently managed brightness (shadows in this one are so nicely contrasting with the parts that are lit!).
TFS - Congratulations!

Bravo!!!

My dear friend Tony:
Not if my monitor, but I see a lot of saturation in shades of green. For the rest, as I imagine will be a shot from the top of the obelisk. The composition of the various breaks in the slopes and trees as contrasted with the blue sky, is wonderful.

Hello Tony,
You found a spectacular landscape in very interesting form while a statue is increasing its beauty attractively. Naturally -I think- terraced ridge amazing with splendid light plays on it. Herd is adding life and contrasts too. Great one, with silhouettes of trees and cloudy sky. Congratulations.
Just fresh, newly captured scene, wonderful my dear friend. I'm also reserving some of my photos everyday for posting to TreakEarth, when I returned to my desk but I can't post everyday due to time limit from my photography assignments; So probably at least my five generations have enough photos currently to post them to TrekEarth twice a week. Have a nice weekend, cheers!

Hi Tony,
Clearly, you don't need the sea to excel in compo and light management! The verdant hill is very scenic and it's masterfully used in the compo, with the obelisk placed in one of the golden points and the impressive game of light, shadows and lights seeming to subtly lead the eye to it. The lambs enhance the wonderful bucolic mood and I like also very much the trees against the sky. Very well done!

You have got the two most prominent colors found in nature here with the lush green hillside with its lovely lines and rich textures reaching to a lovely pastel sky.
The grazing woolies add scale to this brilliantly contrasting landscape.

Hello Tony,
I remember seeing an earlier post by you of this monument. By the light of the sun at a low angle, you get deep shadows and contrasting topography. The obelisk, however, has to be rotated ever so slightly (maybe 1-2°) in a counterclockwise direction. Almost two years Norbert Woehnl pointed out, with disdain and disgust it seems, the Leaning Washington Monument that I had completely overlooked.
Wonderful composition, colors and resolution,
Bulent

incredible colour of the grass! I thought that such a colour can be seen only in paintings (when you paint with oil).
Very pleasant sight; excellent composition - with the obelisk at the very top!
Those three trees on the right - each of a different size - are an excellent, lovely addition :)

Hi Tony,
The light and its shades give a good 3D sensation in this hill draped with green grass, drawing all its relief and its shapes.
The obelisk in the top of the hill points towards the sky with a great slenderness.
I like the nice chromatic contrast and the great light of your composition.

Hello Tony,
I remember of your first shot with this monument but I have never thought that Maori built fortresses. (To tell the truth I know hardly more than nothing of Maori. The only person of Maori origin I heard of is Kiri Te Kanawa - but she is really a phantastic singer, definitely one of the greatest of the world!)

Hello Tony,
This is such a pleasant composition of the famous "One tree hill" which I visited several years ago when the Tree was still there. The warm light has given the pasture a refreshing green dotted by the sheep. The diagonal alignment of the farm fencing, the trees and obelisk protruding into the blue sky all make a wonder sight.
Thanks for sharing from Auckland and hope you have a wonder Christmas and a great New Year ahead.
My warm wishes and regards from Kuching,
