[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Averaging three flights a day, Pohnpei Airport (PNI) is not quite as busy as LAX or LHR, but as it serves the capital of Micronesia, it is nevertheless an important transportation hub in this part of the world. This is a view from the ridge behind Sokehs Rock (which you can see in the last two photographs that I posted from Micronesia) looking north-east towards the airport. PNI has a 6,000 ft runway, which runs the full length of Takatik Island. Pohnpei’s shipping port is also located on Takatik which is connected to the main island by a causeway. In the photograph you can also see part of the reef that surrounds Pohnpei Island.

It is quite a stiff hike up to the top of the ridge from where I took this photograph, but not too difficult (you can drive about halfway up before the track gets too rough and narrow). On top of the ridge there are many pillboxes and old Japanese anti-aircraft and naval guns from World War II. I have posted one of them in the workshop.

As I mentioned in one of my earlier notes about Pohnpei, this is one of the wettest places in the world, so the vegetation is lush and green all the year round.

Hi David!
Great shot of this not often at TE shown country.Good panorama with great depth and colorcontrast. For this good POV it was worth your exhausting walk.
Regards,Leo

This is a beautiful shot. I love the sky in this photo. You framed it all very well.

Hi David - what a spectacular panorama, the tropical cottonball sky is just as atttractive, I feel I must go there one day, the comparison to LAX and LHR made me laugh.

Nice wide-angle view, David--with the clouds it really creates a lot of depth. Beautiful tropical colors, too. A high panoramic viewpoint is not always easy to get in a tropical setting, and this one is a winner. Regards, Ken.

Hi, David! Spestacular pic, with great perspective, colours and sharpness! Well done! Regards! Miguel.

Hi David, nice aerial view with beautiful blue and green colors. I like the vivid colors with the puffy clounds in a good 3-part photo (Land-sea-sky)

P.S. You forgot to bring some blue sky back to KUL ? 8-)

Hi David. Nice view, the forest certainly looks lush. Great composition and POV. Well captured and thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

David
Looks like paradise. You have captured a beautiful part of the world perfectly.

Am browsing the oceania section trying to see if I can find a place to visit this winter, and I keep coming upon your excellent photos (the workshop photo is great!).

It was a worthwhile hike here, with this beautiful view. Your photo is extremely crisp, and the sky, sea and foreground all look so inviting. TFS
