After my last TE post showing the desertification of Inner Mongolia, I thought I would post something completely different from one part of the world that is definitely not facing problems from desertification Ė namely Micronesia.
This is the bay at Kolonia, on Pohnpei Island, with Sokehs Rock in the background which is often compared to Honoluluís Diamond Head. I hiked up to the top of the ridge in the top left of the photograph and got some nice shots over the bay (one of which I have posted in the workshop). Although Kolonia has a population of only 3,500, it is the largest town in the Federated States of Micronesia. Only a small number of tourists visit Pohnpei, so it is a very relaxing place to be, and the locals are extremely friendly.
All of Pohnpei is as green because Pohnpei is one of the wettest places on earth receiving over 400 inches of rain a year in the interior (much of which is impenetrable jungle) and about 200 inches on the coast.
It takes about 90 minutes to drive right around the island, but you really need to a day to do this because there are so many interesting little villages and bays along the way. Most of the road is sealed.
There was no PP needed for this apart from sharpening. I didnít need to increase saturation because the place really is as green as this.

400 inches (10 m)--that's a lot of rain! That would explain the rich greenery, which gives the photo some nice color. But to be honest (is that OK?) I don't think this is one of your best photos, because there's nothing in the foreground to really catch interest, and the boats in the harbor are partly hidden. Still a worthy post to show us what such an unusually wet place looks like! Regards, Ken.

Amazing shots that you have been delievering. This luxorious greenery is wonderful, with excellent strong and natural colours and sharpeness. I also love the one in ws, although this has better quality. Magnificent attractive view, very well composed. Congratulations!

Hi David - what an alluring place, I like the way the water is framed by the lush vibrant green vegetation, this is a good appetiser for me as I will be going to Hawaii next weekend.

A beautiful scene, well composed, David, and one that reminds me of Moorea in French Polenesia.
I enjoyed reading the note, too.
Your website is very interesting, by the way.
Hope your eye trouble remains settled.

Without the bananas tree we can imagine a mediterrean landscape with such blue sea.
You captured this landscape very well.

- Pretty particularly verdant landscape, I like very much the light which is fantastic and the manner they discover the bay behind the foreground, colours are precise and nice, well done!
