Photographer’s Note

Plantation Island (Malolo Lailai), Fiji Mamanuca Islands

This extensively beautiful place was my home for less than two weeks. Here I snorkelled in the most glorious tropical waters I have ever seen, cruised with dolphins and began my love for photography. Pity it was with a grainy 2MP brick-of-a-camera back in 2003, but I have attempted to improve the image as best as possible using Photoshop. The island sits in a small chain about 30ks off Viti Levu, about 1hrs boat trip from Nadi. During my stay I was able to visit about 5 islands, local schools and villages, meet the very friendly and taste international travel for the first time. It was beautiful, awe inspiring.

Hi Matt. It seems as though you have been to Paradise on earth by the look of this. Seems you waded out to get a novel POV and it works very well indeed. Beautiful clarity and colours throughout. Good to see you getting around to see different lands and societies. TFS. Murray.

Matthew I think this picture lacks a bit of contrast. The colours are ok but they seem washed out in some areas of the picture. Nice scene though and very refreshing. This place is beautiful. The picture is well balanced with land and water. Thanks Matthew.

2MP! Well done on the presentation of such a low resolution start. We have been to Castaway a few times it is a few kilometers away from Plantation and the waters are beautiful, my most enjoyable diving has been done in the waters of Mamanuca.

Hi Matt, for the camera you used you have done a good job here!
I love Fiji and have stayed on a couple of the islands. Such a beautoiful climate and the local people are so friendly.
Well taken shot Matt, super composition - the horizon is too centred, but looking at it makes me homesick to go back there.
