Photographer’s Note

This is the Lionfish, nice but poisonous. Very poisonous! We saw many when diving the Fiji islands. Here I took this photo diving Taveuni island, and the Somosomo Strait is the site. Accidents are commom, when divers doesn´t see this fish and touch them without intention. Just because they use to stay quiet inside the rock caves during the day, and sometimes just on the ceiling of the caves "doors". So, any diver looking for creatures inside the rock caves could not perceive a lionfish on ceiling, just over his head, or even beside him. So, if you never dive the pacific islands, or the red sea, watch out for the dangerous, but very nice Lionfish. I took this photo using a close up gear for Nikonos V, so I´ve got near around 20cm. The fish is calm and innofensive and will not attack you. Just don´t touch it! Cheers!

Hi Jose, i see that you have a lot of good pictures in your gallery ! :) I comment this one today cause i love Lion fish, i didn't know what it was when i was snorkeling in red sea, but as i saw this fish not moving when i was swimming in its direction, i understood that i could be dangerous for me ;)))
They are marvelous to see under the sea, yes they are lions ! :))

A very colourful piece of work, well framed, taken at a good angle. Everything contrasts so well thanks to the black bg.

Waouh a photo far away from your home, I like here the explosion of colors and the overall warm color dominant here that's a bit different from be blue we'd expect from such a place.

Que linda composicao, as barbatanas formam um grafismo interessante e as cores sao tao vibrantes! Imagino o que deve ser ve-lo de perto, pois e um peixe lindissimo, sempre que tive a oportuidade de aprecia-lo em aquarios fiquei fascinada.

I love this kind of colorful, underwater, magnificent shots. Its easy to find them somewhere online as a wallpaper and I always was thining its just a graphics work:) but now I can see such magnificent shots are real:)

Hola Jose!
I just decided to take a look at your underwater gallery and so I dicovered this beautiful picture of the really interesting fish. I was only once diving (but only with diving mask and snorkel) on a Malaysian island and I also saw many interesting animals and plants, but I never discovered a Lionfish.
Very good picture anyway, beautiful colors and nice quality for a scanned picture, I really like this one!!!
