After a storm comes a calm

Scarborough - Redcliffe Peninsula

South-East Queensland has been hit by three wild storms during the current week, with heavy rain, very strong winds, hailstones, lightning and thunder. The devastation was enormous and the damage estimated into more than 500 millions dollars. Tens of houses became roofless and hundred damaged, thousands of people stayed without power for many hours (up to 2 to 3 days), roads and railways were disturbed, creeks and rivers filled up quickly and many areas still remain flooded and cars were smashed. Fortunately, only two people died in result of the bad weather.

The suburb next to where I live did not escape the fury of Mother Nature and in only five minutes a narrow strip of houses, shops, cars and trees was severely damaged.

The main picture is a shot of a sea front area in Scarborough in the morning after the third storm swept across the residential and commercial area a mere 1000 meters away.

The complementary photos are:

WS1 - view from the park in front of the local hotel which sustained extensive roof damage.
WS2 - beach with debris produced by the gale wind.
WS3 - woman looking at a broken Norfolk Pine tree.
