Photographer’s Note
After a storm comes a calm
Scarborough - Redcliffe Peninsula
South-East Queensland has been hit by three wild storms during the current week, with heavy rain, very strong winds, hailstones, lightning and thunder. The devastation was enormous and the damage estimated into more than 500 millions dollars. Tens of houses became roofless and hundred damaged, thousands of people stayed without power for many hours (up to 2 to 3 days), roads and railways were disturbed, creeks and rivers filled up quickly and many areas still remain flooded and cars were smashed. Fortunately, only two people died in result of the bad weather.
The suburb next to where I live did not escape the fury of Mother Nature and in only five minutes a narrow strip of houses, shops, cars and trees was severely damaged.
The main picture is a shot of a sea front area in Scarborough in the morning after the third storm swept across the residential and commercial area a mere 1000 meters away.
The complementary photos are:
WS1 - view from the park in front of the local hotel which sustained extensive roof damage.
WS2 - beach with debris produced by the gale wind.
WS3 - woman looking at a broken Norfolk Pine tree.
ISO: 100

Bonjour Antonio

Bon dia Antonio,
I read about the storm and I was thinking about you and other friends living in Lismore. The nature is impredictable and we cannot do nothing. The photography of the woman looking at a broken Norfolk Pine Tree is superb. The clouds, the colour of the sky. It is really 'after the storm'. Take care and happy to hear from you.

Hello Antonio,
your photo seems very calm and I love the vivid sky. It's sad to know that so much desolation resulted from the storms, as I can see in your workshops. Nature takes what is hers. We've been very cruel to our mother planet, so it's time to pay the price. Don't want to get too philosophical, but your photo (and the WS) shows it so clearly! We are only guests here on earth!
Thanks for the photos and take care!

I'm sorry to hear about the floods and the damage. Looking at the trees we can see how strong the storm was.
But the sky on this picture is absolutely beautiful: the forms of the white clouds with the deep blue between. You can almost see the clouds moving.

Hi Antonio,
My brother-in-law lives in Sunnybank, fortunately they were spared the damage but said the storm was ferocious.
Your capture shows the aftermath well, the trees bent to the wind give some information as to how hard it was blowing.
Isn't it amazing that after these climatic events the sky is always so beautiful.

Ciao Antonio,
the sky of this image is really stupendous. The form of the clouds moved by the wind and the trees folded up with the branches on the earth gives us the feeling of the just blow over storm. Excellent the management of the light and the sharpness. You have really done a good work, compliment!

Cumprimentos. Domingos

Interesting to see your version of the November storms - living in The Gap we were right in the middle of the disaster zone. This scene is striking with the dramatic sky but the devastation seems comparatively mild. Tfs, Marlene
