Photographer’s Note

The PS Decoy, built in 1878, is a regular sight on the Swan River here at Perth, Western Australia: this same vessel actually made a crossing of the Great Australian Bight in the early 1900's, carrying some 90 miners from the Murray River in South Australia to Fremantle. Rather them than me!!

Hi Jeff,
Great view of the old boat still "steaming" the waters of Perth. I've been to just about all the other major cities in Australia, but never to Perth, so this image seems to give me a good idea of the beauty and feel of the city. Clarity is excellent' particularly evident in the tall buildings in the background. My only comment here would be to crop off about 2 cm of the water in the foreground. Anyway, great photo all the same. Well done.

Don't know why I went to the Nikon instead of the Oly8080. Beautiful crisp, clean sharp image. The old girl looks pretty good steaming along. The Swan never looked this good. Great shot with the city in the background, nice light.

Jeff, well I can't say as this is the most wonderful composition I have ever seen but it maybe the sharpest, clearest image I have seen here on TE, it is awesome. Composition is not bad for sure, just kind of ordinary snapshot, but the color is super and I have never seen sharpness like this that isn't breaking up into noise pixels. Great job, keep it up what ever you did.

Hi Jeff:

Nice--I like boat shots. But I really like the background here, the city. The use of that road to lead the eye along towards the skyscrapers was excellent. Personally I think there's a bit too much water--I'd have cropped a bit more. But hey, preferences. Nice job.
