Photographer’s Note
We have a friend visiting from Seattle. One of the more interesting things to do with overseas guests visiting Sydney is the Sydney Harbour foreshore walk, an easy and well sign posted 10 kilometre track that starts at the Spit and winds its way through untouched bushland, and ending up in Manly. The track offers fantastic views of Middle Harbour, Sydney Heads and of course Manly. I took this shot yesterday afternoon. The angle is looking north east into Manly Cove with the Pacific Ocean in the background. The ferry just leaving Manly Wharf is one of the larger ferries operating on the harbour and is on its way across the harbour to the city, ending up at Circular Quay. Arguably, for the traveller this is one of the cheapest and most beautiful boat trips to be had anywhere in the world. If any of you ever get to Sydney, I can’t recommend this walk highly enough. The views are spectacular, and there is any number of Hotels in Manly serving frothing cold beer to quench the thirst of the weary traveller.

Hi Peter,
Great viewpoint to open sea. Good that you included that leaving ferry. It really is great walk. I took it on my visit in 2004. But memory card of the camera broke down leaving no pictures from that place. The isthmus looks quite narrow from this angle.

Hello peter ,
A very beautifull view . All the grounds are nice and interesting : the trees , the harbour , the town , the dark blue ocean , the superb sky . The ferry and the sailing ship add something good to the composition .
Bravo

Hello Peter,
This is a must do walk if I ever visited Sydney. Thanks for the notes. Great framing with the foreground trees. Good view alternating with land sea, holiday resorts, and sea again. I like that big boat leaving the terminal. Wonderful colors & lighting. Best Regards. Latiff.

Hi Peter
Lovely view of Manly and good timing to have the ferry and yacht to animate the middle-ground. I like how you have the trees in the foreground and Manly sandwiched inbetween 2 bands of water although I would have preferred that part sharper.

A very nice postcard and an interesting note. The inclusion of the ferry is great. And the clouds on the horizon are very pleasant to look at.

G'day Pete!
The 'Rule of Thirds' is spot on here! When I next visit Sydney, we'll do the walk AND the pubs together! Love those clouds in the distance, too!
Best wishes,

did you take your friends on the H.M.Bark Endeavour, she is well worth a visit. Whitby has a population of around 13,000 people, when the endeavour first visited whitby in 1977 there was a reported 250,000 people in the town to see her arrive

It is the perfect view of the famous Sydney suburb. You should publish it as a post card. I am sure it would be rewarding. Congratulations, it is very well done.

Hello Peter,
The more I look at your Sydney photos, the more I get inclined to move back to Sydney. At least the winter weather shown here is far better than that of gloomy and cloudy Melbourne...hahaha, perhaps just for that 1 lucky day!
I like the saturated blue, green and white colour scheme presented in this shot from Manly, beautifully composed. Would love to see another large post some day, to show us more on the right and left. But for the moment I am extremely happy to see this delightful shot.
Cheers
Alfred

Hi Peter,
This brings back nice memories, I had good time there when I came to Oz in 94, you have found a good pov to offer us this luminous comprehensive view, the big ferry is also very eye catching.
Have a nice day JY

Hi Peter,
The point of view leads our eyes toward the buildings then to the horizon which is giving depth to the picture. The presence of the small boats has an effect of scale. The quality of the light brings out the beauty of the colors. The scenery is giving a sensation of tranquillity. Have a nice day.

Hi Peter,
Wonderful POV looking down on the the placid deep blue harbor that contrast beautifully with the green foreground trees.
The city skyline makes a lovely break between the harbor, distant sea and beautiful clouds and sky.
I for one could go for one of this frothing cold beers.
