Hello Mick,
Essential, impactful and very informative photo.
You say in your note "not a great shot", which is quite funny by the way... I think a "good shot" is even more impressive to tell what you want to tell no ? So if you think it's not good, why don't make it better ?
Well for me, not so bad anyway !!! I just think there is a tilt which could be corrected easily with a software, and that a crop on the left could be also great to avoid the branch. But the composition is good to illustrate your note : the jetty, the strange sign, and even this man walking "into" the lake, all this elements enhance your note.
