Photographer’s Note
This is another look at Jervis Bay. You can see the gap for the bay in the distance with Point Perpendicular on the left and Bowen Island and Governors Head on the right of the gap. Jervis Bay is known for its beautiful white sand, and it is, but what they don’t tell you is about the rocky shores at Huskisson. With the tide out, these rocks with their tidal pools are left exposed. Huskisson has its white sandy beaches too, but they also have this rocky area. This is a great place for shore birds to feed, and I enjoyed exploring it myself.
This shot is looking south-east, I took another one looking north-east towards Callala Beach. Please visit the workshop to see this one.
Workflow:
I follow a generic workflow now as outlined in my Bio.
Details and differences to this are as follows:
Shot taken at 18mm, ISO 250, f/8, 1/90 sec
Levels - tweaked
Curves – tweaked
New saturation layer added, +15 to master, -15 lightness +20 to selected red – trees masked (to match web colour – proof colours with shot)
Overlay layer with 5-10% opacity black brush used for burning
Saved at 78% quality for 195K (300K limit would be nice)

John,
Another beautiful shot of the Jervis Bay area, I like the composition which show much of the foreground rock at low tide leading the eyes into the distant horizon. Look like the rocks are still wet and the light is weak and therefore very dark on the rocks and tree line is also a bit dark, on my monitor anyway. Very nice presentation with clean and simple which I proudly copied. :) Thanks John. Have a good day.

Hello John,
Your note regarding your "generic work flow" is useful, and I am grateful that you provide it for all of us. Shooting with an identical camera, I can appreciate the quality you've achieved. Of course, a successful photograph starts has to be conceived well and implemented well, and just occasionally is it just luck. In this image you've composed the scene exquisitely and exposed (and post-processed) it flawlessly.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hi john. Those rocks and your low POV give this shot excellent depth. Good sky to add interest also. Well conceived shot and thanks for sharing.

Do they create any nice pools when exposed? The place is very beautiful and it is a pitty to be so far away from Brisbane! Maybe one day! It is a very nice photo work and a very good note.

Hi John, You are showing us some wonderful beaches in the southern part of NSW. I like the concentration on the foreground rocks. The sea and trees on the background. On my monitor it is a little dark, but this is a laptop inside at night so may be partially this end effect. TFS. Murray.

Hello John, I'm always impressed by the sharpness, clarity & depth in your images & this is a perfect example. These wet shinning rocks look so real that I can touch them & smell that seaweed. Well captured from a low POV & very well presented. Your WS version is every bit as good & as interesting, I also liked your bird. Nice note, interesting workflow & I like your simple tasteful framing.
Always very thankful.
Take care

Hello John. This is really amazing low angle view. I like the yellow stuff on the wet rock. The foreground detail works very well here with thin layer of the ocean and minimum sky. Awesome perspective of this beautiful and natural looking bay. Good work delivered by a perfectionist. Thanks for sharing and have a nice day. Jusni

Hello John, I am impressed with this shot which focus on the rocks with a lot of fine detils, and yet you have put this in the context of the surrounding area, i.e. the sandy beach, sea, trees and even a boat at the horizon. As a whole this conveys the mood of the place very well and it appears very tempting despite the glommy weather conditions at the time of the shot. To me you have got the essence of this place in a single photo.
The shore bird in the WS is just as wonderful with excellent sharpnest and lighting, and I like the breaking waves seen in the WS post too.
Best wishes always,
Alfred

Hi John,
Excellent shot! The POV is key here. If I took this shot, it would have been boring, but you made this look so pretty. The inclusion of the FG was a great idea.
Thanks for sharing (and teaching!)

Hi John,
The rocks in the foreground lead our eyes toward the beach and the bay. The trees in the background are a good addition to the composition. The scenery is well divided. The photo is clear and precise. Have a nice day.

John,
seeing the previous post that I just wrote a critique and now this one here also with the dark impression I come finally to the conclusion that the monitor is the responsible one for this impression of darkness. So I will focus on the composition. That is something were the monitor doesn't interfere. The lines in the rocks with the yellow dots (clams?) are a nice leading element into the sea and sky in the far background.

Hello John,
Not all beaches are sandy!
The rocky shore with its fine details takes much of the interest in this image, before it takes my eyes to the horizon beyond...
A well balanced composition, fine details and a good sky!
Greetings,

Hi John
Lovely composition with the textured rocks in the foreground, lots of detail coming through too. Like the low angle POV. Colours look very natural.
