[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
While treking up the 1000 steps at the Dandenong Ranges with my camera, I came across this family of Australian Wood Duck(*). As I chase slowly after them trying to get a snap shot, the father(*) was pretty defensive and even snarled at me to protect the ducklings. I told them I wont hurt them but they wont trust me a bit.

The grass was pretty long and so it was difficult to get a low angle shot.

Thanks for viewing and welcome all critiques.

Regards
Alfred

Hi Alfred, this is an Australian Wood Duck (male) with the largest family I've seen yet. These guys tend to be a little shy with their families, so all things considered, I'd say you didn't do too bad. The composition is a good one with the group escaping to the top right of your frame. You've cropped it well to get all of them in the shot, and I like the look back from the father, to check to see where you are. Depending on your light the colour may have been close to this, but I thought the green might be a little "off". I tried levels and auto colour correction and nothing changed, so I've gone in to play with the shot in a workshop to change it manually to offer you another option.

Thanks, John

Hello Alfred. Thanks for sharing this beautiful family portrait and I'll have to agree with John (brilliant photographer and also an active TN member) about the number of siblings here. Wonderful sharpness in natural habitat and rather interesting that the group is actually with the father. Well done and best regards. Jusni

Hello Alfred, I like you didn't realise that was the male I would have thought that it must be the female with it's young. Back to the photo, I like the close crop & colour of the ducks it looks very natural. I also like the result John achieved.
A nice Nature shot.
Thanks
Santo
