Photographer’s Note

The Bolte Bridge is a large twin Cantilever bridge. It spans the Yarra River and Victoria Harbour in the Docklands precinct. It forms part of the CityLink system of toll-roads that connects the Tullamarine Freeway from the northern suburbs with the West Gate Freeway and the Domain and Burnley tunnels to the Monash Freeway and the south.

It was named after former Premier of Victoria, Sir Henry Bolte.

Henry Bolte was born in Ballarat, the son of a publican of German descent. In his later years he became known as the last Australian politician to advocate, and use, capital punishment.

This view is from the Docklands.

Melbourne Docklands is best known as home to the Telstra Dome, Southern Cross Station and a large number of modern buildings and eccentric public artworks.

The Melbourne Docklands precinct was originally used for docks but fell out of use following the containerisation of shipping traffic. The space remained vacant and unused during the 1980's and it fell in to disrepair.

Thank you for looking.
