Photographer’s Note
St Patricks Cathedral in Melbourne is lit up at night. The lighting emphasises the golden sandstone and the black basalt of the building. For a long time it was the tallest building in Melbourne. It is a classic neo-gothic church opened in 1897, although the spires were not completed till 1939.
Scanned from a slide. This is a hand held photo with about 1 second exposure. I sat on a chair in the church grounds to steady myself while I took it. I must get a tripod one day.

lovely capture of the glow and good warm colours make this composition very great. I love the perspective as well

I must say you have a very good hand. I would not be able to stay still. Is this the one opposite to Flinders Street Station? Or, the other near the Parliament house? It is a very nice dual tone picture.

Hello Vincent,
This is a pretty good result for a photograph which has been hand held for a 1sec exposure and then scanned. The grainy effect in the lower section in particular looks good. It is effective to have portions of the facade illuminated whilst others remain in shadow. You have to admire the skill stonework on buildings like this, it is true to say that they just don't build them like they used to. Thanks for posting!
Matt
