Photographer’s Note
The gorge is named after the clipper ship Loch Ard, which ran aground on nearby Muttonbird Island on 1 June 1878 approaching the end of a three-month journey from England to Melbourne. All but two of the fifty-four passengers and crew perished - Tom Pearce, a ship's apprentice and Eva Carmichael, an Irishwoman immigrating with her family, both of whom were 18 years of age. According to memorials at the site, Pearce was washed ashore, and rescued Carmichael from the water after hearing her cries for help. Pearce then proceeded to climb out of the gorge to raise the alarm to local pastoralists who immediately set into plan a rescue attempt. The gorge is accessed via the Great Ocean Road, only a few kilometres past The Twelve Apostles. Stairs allow visitors access to the beach which is otherwise undeveloped. There are numerous plaques that tell the story as well and a small museum and rest area and a cemetery housing many of the people that were killed. Have a nice day all, guys. ;-) Cheers, R.

Hi Radim,
The movement in the sea is just fantastic. So too is your choice of black and white. In fact, because it's black & white, I can't really tell if your photo was taken at night or in the day. The 30 sec exposure time leads me to believe it was at night, but the feel of your photo wants me to second guess myself... Indeed, I think this ambiguity adds a lot of atmosphere to the image.
Well done!

Hello Radim,
I like the image, but the exposure time may have been better to show at 15 seconds as the final image here is too soft for my eyes. I feel you have lost the feling you were attempting to capture, that is allowing the water the funnel around the rock as if to capture its soul. Excellent B/W tones and sky...

Hello Radim -
I do like the blurring of the wave action in this image. This long exposure besides blurring the tidal action has produced a soft image but also rather interesting circulation patterns in the water. I am quite surprised with the B&W conversion on a scene that is probably very colorful and nice to look at. The conversion looks to well done as there is a good range of tones from black to white. Interesting and well done.
Thank you for sharing.

Hello Radim
It`s a beautiful seascape with a very good conversion in black and white.I do like it,the softness of the image, the way the horizon meet the sky,the B&W tones are very good.Composition it`s very fine.Very good photograph IMO.Very nice.
Best regards,
Lucian

The B&W theme suites the story. Great composition.
Is this a single long exposure? I love this style and want to learn more.

Hello Radim,
An excellent, poetic landscape shot. The long exposure makes the water look 'soft', yet it suggests motion. Also the timing (just after sunset) seems perfect, the absence of shadows adds some surrealism to the picture.

Hi Radim,
This shot is spectacular, the place seem's to be fabulous. Your choice of exposition time result a terrble effect on the water, and with the black and white choice, the water and the sky look the same. A very graphical view render here.
Like lili i think that place should be very nice in color too. Well done for this one!

Olivier

Admittedly I'm not a big fan of B&W landscapes but this is an original take on an often photographed formation, the sea does look over soft.

Ahoj Radime,
mmm...this is really strange...good idea to make a long time shot from such a perspective and view, it makes this place looks really mysterious...good work!
Take care, Ivana

Magnificent, Radim. I presume your exposure was made at night, or at least at dusk, and your processing in the monochrome has added considerably to the drama. Did you apply much dodge/burn, or is it pretty much as-shot?
Excellent to see our trusty Canon 350D still producing such outstanding results, even though it's now two generations old. It really is more the photographer than the gear, isn't it?
Well done and thanks for sharing this one.

Outstanding photo, Radim, combination of the smoooooth water and roughnes of the stones, you are really careful what you are doing, it shows.

Hi Radim. There is a dreamy quality to this shot and the cliff and stack seem to be floating or gliding upon a mysterious substance. Great result and the B&W treatment makes a strong visual statement. Regards. Klaudio.
