This is the observation deck found on the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay in Sydney Harbour. This spot doesn’t seem to be well known, by tourists or the locals, but is a fantastic vantage point to take photographs of Circular Quay, and the Opera House. From the Observation Tower (red stairs) at the end of this deck, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and The Rocks Wharf area are easily accessed. The deck is on the uppermost floor of the terminal, running along the length of the building. It is open to the public, even when ships are in. Of course when a ship is in, it’s like looking out into a wall, though you might get a peak into the inner workings of the ship from here. I spent an hour up here one day just watching them load the tons of food for the passengers that would be boarding later. It’s quite an operation.

Workflow for this shot was as follows:
Shot was taken in Raw, with a jpeg for reference - NEF file adjusted for exposure and shadow
Adjusted levels – black points and white points - midpoints (by eye)
Adjusted curves – for contrast
Added an overlay layer and dodged and burned with 5% opacity black and white brush
Added saturation layer +12 to master
Saved as a tiff
Straightened and cropped, resized, added a layer, sharpened with USM, modified sharpening with a layer mask (50% opacity black brush), framed and saved as a jpeg

It is a very clean view of the deck. It is a pity you did not catch any “passenger” but, who knows, next time you will be luckier.
I like the diagonal compo which gives a good depth. Even the two corners on the right side are very good elements. Well done.
Antonio

HI John!

Great perspective on this one. Great colour fading at the end with redish spot of almost monochrome image. Excellent sharpness and compo, all in all nice job.

Best regards, Jeri.

Hallo John!
An inventive and truly not everyday's photo! More depth nearly isn't possible. A great perspective! Very well seen!
Greetings from cold and humid Germany!

Hi John. Good clean lines in this composition. It must be a busy place when the huge passenger ships are in port. Good image for TE. TFS. Murray.

Hi John,
There is great perspective in this shot with the lettering going from larger to smaller. Nice sharp details. Is that a boat reflected in the window? It sounds like a great place to watch the world go by.
Regards
Wanda

Hello John. I like the way lines are being converged here leading to the end of the corridor. The writing is in excellent sharpness with interesting reflection and well positioned above the uniformity of the potted plants. Pleasant image in almost monochromatic and thanks for sharing this. Well done and best regards. Jusni
