This is part of Encounter Bay, I believe there is a seal colony out on this little island. Some of the other images I have posted in the past of this area have been just the other side of the Bluff where the sea is very rough in comparison to this sheltered bay. I have chosen to give you some history relating to the Indigenous people who lived here before European settlement.

Victor Harbor

Indigenous Significance

The Ngarrindjeri were a confraternity of 18 Aboriginal clans whose people populated the area from Cape Jervis to Kingston for forty thousand years or more. The Ramindjeri were the clan who inhabited the region around Encounter Bay. Good rainfall, two rivers and the sea meant that food was abundant and so the Ramindjeri enjoyed a permanent location at a place called Yilki. They were industrious and resourceful producing canoes and nets for fishing on the lakes and rivers. They made rugs and cloaks from skins and mats and baskets from river rushes. For the most part the clans lived in peace with each other and confrontations were no more serious than the sporting rivalry today between neighbouring districts. They had a well developed cultural and social structure supported by a rich mythology and they lived in harmony with nature and each other. Their mythology explained their surroundings and its origins. Ainslie Roberts, the world renowned painter who lived at Yilki for many years, interpreted many Aboriginal myths in his paintings.

Hi Debbie. Great photo. Unfortunately the harsh afternoon sun has robbed you of good colour but the composition and those wonderful reflections save this shot. well captured and thanks for sharing.

Hi Debbie, very paceful atmosphere here. I like ery much the rendering on the water near the pear where some reflecions occur. The brid standing still is adding very much to this so tranquil atmospehere. Very well done.

Hi Debbie, very peaceful scene of Encounter Bay. The water is excellent, it looks like glass in this shot. The composition is very good with the cormorant sitting on the dock waiting to catch something, and the island in the background. The rocks on the left help round out the scene.

Thanks, John

Helo Debi

Hi Debbie,
Lovely scenery, good composed and exposed. Like how the bird is sitting on the pier. It's just a minor detail, but i like that a lot.
A real good shot from this very serene and peaceful landscape.

Hi Debbie,
Certainly a quiet bay!
It's very appropriated your POV to show us how this part of the island looks like.
Pretty good the composition made with all this elements, in a well balanced way and right proportions.
Good the inclusion of the small bird!
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

Hi Debbie,

very nice POV! The pier and the island make this shot attractive. I like the sky and sea colors. It looks they almost the same thing. There is a thin line dividing them. Great job!

Carlos

Hi Debbie,
It's a beautiful view, very well shot and featuring a nice peaceful atmosphere, somehow enhaned by the presence of the bird. That red thing gives a nice touch of colour. The only thing that is not so perfect is the colour balance, I think that it is a bit brownish.
Regards, José.

Hi Debbie,

Wonderful composition, with perfect contrasts, the reflection of the pier in the water make it quite special, and balnced colors. Nice depth too. It seems to be a peaceful place to enjoy a nice afternoon.

Regards,

Flavia

Hi Debbie,
this is lovely scene of the Bay. First I thought that it would be better to have the mole down, going from the corner. But the water reflection is so superb that you choosed the best compo for this photo.

Stanislav
