Photographer’s Note

Sydney Harbour featuring the famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge photographed just before dawn from the small headland known as 'Mrs. Macquarie's Point'.

Construction started on Sydney Harbour Bridge in 1923 and it was finally open to traffic 9 years later in 1932. It is made up of 52,800 tonnes of metal girders. The 'deck' supports 8 lanes of road traffic, a pedestrian walkway and a railway line. It is estimated that 150,000 vehicles cross the bridge every day. The span in 502 metres in length and, standing at the top of the bridge (I mean the VERY top - with the flag and the seagulls) you'd be 134m off the ground. You CAN actually climb to the top of the bridge with the aptly named "BridgeClimb" company.

Sydney Opera House was built much later in 1973 and its revolutionary design was created by Danish architect John Utzon. The Opera House has 5 perfromance venues ranging from the 2,690 capacity main Concert Hall to the small Playhouse Theatre.
