Photographer’s Note

This is The Great Hall Tapestry, located in Parliament House, Canberra, ACT.

"The Great Hall Tapestry is based on a painting by Australian artist Arthur Boyd, AC, OBE. It features a eucalyptus forest in the Shoalhaven area of New South Wales. Measuring 20 x 9 metres, it is one of the largest tapestries in the world. A team of 13 weavers from the Victorian Tapestry Workshop took just two and a half years to complete the work." (http://www.aph.gov.au/DPS/building/visiting/architect/build.htm)

Two main features of the tapestry are:
1. Halley's comet, which was added into the tapestry in order to date it (Halley's comet was passing at the time when the tapistry was being woven). Halley's comet, however, wasn't in the original painting, but was included in the tapestry with permission from the artist (the artist has added a brushstroke in the painting where Halley's comet was added in the tapestry to show his approval).
2. A sulpher-crested cockatoo in flight.

I've pointed these features out in my workshop.

I will post a photo of the original painting later on.
