[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
there comes a time in our lives where we have to stop and take stock. for most of us, it's when we turn 30. at least that's what i'm hoping because that's what i'm doing today. as i commemorate my third decade of existence, i'm compelled to reflect and ponder what was and what could have been, what could be and what will be.

this shot was taken a day before my own graduation from university, postgraduate diploma, at a beach, obviously, in the town of yeppoon, 30mins east of rockhampton.

there were some nice colours that evening and some showers can be seen on the horizon on the left.

my carefree days, the days of travel, partying, recklessness and frivolity seem to be over... or are they just beginning? ;)

Nah, if you're smart, they're just getting started. You'll find you never even really knew how to be truly frivolous when you were younger. Now you've got the psychic equipment and the experience to really go crazy. Nice shot. Jump in the water. Enjoy the evening light. When the night comes, then you can really let go. Congratulations. -Hugh

They are just starting, not necessarily the day of recklessness and frivolity but the days of a wise man. Happy birthday Craig and do not forget to travel. Saint Augustine said: “The world is a book and those who do not travel, read only a page”.
Antonio

Happy birthday Craig. A lovely shot to commemorate your birthday, lovely colours. You have the knowledge accumulated from your studies to go far. Just do it!!!!
Cheers,
Debbie

The sky presents a beautiful picture will all those colours splashed around for good measure, the hues are bright and brilliant. the tones and textures are great. the whole expanse has been well taken into the frame.

Happy birthday, mate.

I'm not far off that milestone myself (a few months). Never been better really. Fell like I'm 20, just with more money and more ideas.

Good luck, and keep taking the good shots.

It's a nice afternoon shot, a nice feel.

Cheers
Adam

Hi Craig,

I have 6 years to get there, but I always hear my mom say, life begins at 30 ;)!!! We always remain young at heart! your not 89 are you? ;). This is a beautiful picture to commemorate your birthday. A nice image to reflect upon the the good ol' days and look forward to a bright tomorrow. Like the horizon, nobody really know what in store for us, but that's what makes life more exciting! like opening a gift! Nice shot, nice view with fine lines and colors.

Happy Birthday Craig!!!

Cheers,
Claire

Hi Craig

Happy Birthday. I hope your carefree days continue! Great soft light and warm colors. The three people in the surf showing the how insignificant we are, so live life. Anyhow well done.
Ben

Hi Craig,
From experience, I think there are more living, experience, and traveling to be had after 30. This is a wonderful sunset. Lighting and colors are striking in this composition. Cheers, Danilo

Nice shot, and a nice reflective note. Well done.
I like the colours of your beachscape here - fairly saturated and bold. It gives a great moody feel to the sky overhead.

great colours in this shot ... nice contrast between the red rusty sand and the fading blue sky.

brightening the shot has helped a lot. we can now enjoy more detail in the water and the people too. usually, i would say that positioning the horizon across the centre of the photograph is a mistake, however i think that you get away with it due to the nice angles created by the beach, sand and sky.

good shot.

Hi Craig
nice landscape. The clouds and the sand are composed in a perfect symetry.
It's well done
Bertrand

Well I hope not Craig, there is much more to come, if you just take your chances, and you have started with this wonderful post which I like a lot. Strange tones of colors in a way but I like them and gives a different beach feeling. I have seen your picture before and I had to come back, so it must have something that attracts me. Maybe the rusty tone of the beach together with the pinkish-blue color of the sky ... whatever it maybe, it goes well. Take care, Barbara.

you've only just begun.....happy bday and congratz on your recent graduation!
i particularly like the colors in this composition- they are all in harmony! beautiful sunset capture, and yes, superbly composed, craig!

Hello Craig,

I read that you graduation from university, postgraduate diploma; very congratulations!
A new world go for you open!
You took a very well picture, the low sun care for the specially colours, excellent composition too! Thanks for sharing.

Have a nice day,
John.

Hello Craig

Good clors, framing and exposure.
Congratulations.

Craig,
Great shot! The early evening lighting sets a nice mood for the photo. The rain shower in the distance is a nice bonus. The colors and sharpness are fine with good detail.

Asa

Hello Craig -

A very nice sunset in deed. There a few things in this image that need some attention, IMO. There is a very strong color cast. I know late afternoon light is amber and warm but when you look at the breakers there is way too much red. I think the cast need to be cleared or if you were shooting RAW a little cooler WB to remove the red from the white. The very shallow DOF in this image has rendered the people and the background to be very soft.

Thanks for sharing

great colors and a wonderful note. I've got another year left before I embark on my journey of introspection. This shot works well with your note.

Hello Craig,
Very nice landscape, I especialy love the colors of this end of day (?)
Don't worry, you will still travel, party... as long as you will it, this is a question of mind, not a question of age (and I can tell you because I am 48)...
I know I am late but I still want to wish a very happy birthday :o) and be sure that 30 is really the golden age.
Have a nice day.
Best regards, Christian

Hello Craig,
These deeply saturated colors are definitely eyecatchers.
Very nice one.
About the note, Happy Birthday !
Agreeing with Hugh, perhaps good days just started today !
(only a matter of POV, like in photography :o))
Regards,
JB.

Hi Craig. First, thanks for your advice on my photo yesterday re cropping.
Happy 30s to you and all that; rather terminal is it, turning 30? The end of life as you've known it?
Nice new model Nikon; I wonder if that was a birthday present. Anyway, it's taken a very atmospheric shot here. Lovely lighting and a marvellous upper sky. The colour cast is a bit too red, perhaps, as seen in the 'white' waves, but the sense of space and the feeling of the elements is strong.
Regards,
Andrew
