I have been trying to get inside the peak with my camera and have found that the closer inside you get the better and more interesting the wave gets. So far in the past year I have lost my cannon 300,350, and two 300mm lends and an olympus 670 all to the sea. But I still enjoy getting the shots. I am asking you should I get the cannon 30d or the nikon 200d? Witch one do you think is better for wave photos?
Take care Richard

Amazing shot of the waves. Great colours.

Hi Richard

Amazing photo ... No more coments

About the cameras or you are very rich or you should buy a bigger zoom len.

TFS

Great shot!!! The water looks almost like gelly...;-)

merhaba richard
wonderful waves and wonderful pastel colours.
well done.best regards.

Hi Richard.

Your waves are always spectacular, especially this one! Beautiful.

For the camera, You speak about two different categories. The little brother of the D200 would be the Canon EOS 5D, but there, that depends if you prefer a full frame with its advantages and its disadvantages or not!

Superb shot Richard!

Hi Richard
Fantastic capture and composition of this increadible wave, idem for the water colour...
I'm really sorry for your equipament...(I think you better use a waterprof camera... :) ) (I'm kidding..)
great picture, and seriouslly, I think any camera you comment are very good for this, what you need is a very long tele to get off of sea proximity..
well done.
Tayon

Wicked shot. I love the crevassness and icyness. draws me in to want to get sucked up and dumped by that beauty. Brilliant sharpness.
Pete

Richard,
Fantastic shot. The lighting and colors are great as is the sharpness.
Your POV is very good letting us see inside the curl of the wave.
Have you thought about a waterproof case for your camera?
TFS,
Asa

Hi Richard
Amazing shot and after looking at your gallery,I see that you have a passion for a beauty that is ephemeral in nature,You do succeed in immortalizing your love from an excellent vantage point. You are taking us inside a world that I never imagine existed, and your shots with the surfers waiting or coming in the waves are exceptionnal.I tried the link you gave to Paul(PJE)but it is not working.
Keep the great work.

Richard I was about to turn in for the night until I saw your link to this photo. Wonderful capture in every way. As one member said already.. its a wicked shot!

I am sorry to hear you have lost this much glass and camera to the sea already. Oh it must suck. I thought Canon L glass was waterproof? That may be pushing it a little too much. I can see now that your wave photos have cost you dearly now too.

My suggestion is this Richard. If you are still into capturing these waves with a zoom lens it might be good to stay with the Canon 300D, 350D and 400Xti size sensor because it will enable you to capture the long reach that you need for these kind of shots. It also seems to me that you might be better off with either a 400mm lens or look into buying a water jacket for your camera. I have seen one for the Canon 300D. Not sure about the lens though. I would imagine with a little creative thinking one could make his own. I am inclined to making things like that myself. Esp seeing you already have lost so much to the sea... oh it hurts to hear that Richard. At any rate I hope the advise you receive is helpful.

very interesting wave richard, its good of you too get so close so we TE'ers dont have to get wet ;) it does look more like jelly though, i would suspect that has something to do with over-aggressive sharpening in post-process?

about the camera; i think the 200d would better suite your needs as it provides much better weather sealing than the 30d

take care,
steve
