Sydney Harbour photographed in the early evening from Kiribilli. The lights of the city glimmer on the water. This is one of the most famous views in the world but anyway, here's what we are looking at... The Opera House is to the left, Circular Quay is in the centre and to the right is of course the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
I didn't have a tripod but I found a suitable perch for my camera. It wasn't as high as I wanted because I still had some foreground bushes in the shot - but on reflection I'm happy with this as it gives the picture more depth.

magnifique prise nocturne avec des couleurs et des relfets superbes. Bon choix du format également et bel équilibre dans la compo

This is a very impressive shot for one taken without a tripod. The light from the buildings is balanced by the light in the sky, giving a beautiful result. I like the foreground grass too, because as you say, it adds some depth to the photo. Excellent work!

Very good evening photo of the Sydney skyline.
I like the colors and the contrast against the still slightly blue sky.
Good compo here with the small bushes on the foregroud adding depth.

Hi Jonathan, tripod or not, you've made this one work. The bushes I think actually enhance the scene. The lighting has worked out very well. The question I have is did you try to hold it steady against something, or were you able set it and to "let go"?

i think the results w/no tripod are still quite good. you've managed to get quite a bit in the scene. the opera house seems to be getting pushed out a little though, which is a shame. perhaps you could have stitched two shots together? or maybe the angle wouldn't be as good.. hmm...
either way, the lights create some good patterns and the reflections are a nice touch too. well done!

I agree Jonathan! it does indeed work good with the branches and i would probably have tried to avoid them as well.
You really managed to include all the major sight of sydney in this one, the skyline, bridge and opera house, very impressive indeed.
I am also quite impressed that you got such a good result without a proper tripod.
Have a good sunday

Nice work from a great POV under this bridge. No tripod doesn't bother and indeed the perch was good, I like the foreground elements, as you've said they indeed provide depth and extra interest. Lovely reflections. Good gradual tones in the sky. Fine capture.
