Photographer’s Note
St James Church,
Blakiston.
St James Anglican Church at Blakiston, near
Littlehampton in the Adelaide Hills, is one of the State's earliest Anglican Churches. Of the several Anglican churches built in South Australia between 1837 and 1847, only St James Church and Holy Trinity in North Terrace, Adelaide, remain. St James, was completed in 1847, and remains virtually as constructed, complete with its graveyard and rectory. The later belltower contains one of the oldest bells cast in South Australia.
Not only is there intact physical evidence of the religious life of the early settlers of the Blakiston district in the site itself, but also a documentary legacy in the form of diaries and letters of the original minister and Francis Davison (founder of Blakiston), newspaper articles and an early watercolour of the interior of the church painted by the noted early South Australian artist, ST Gill in
the late 1840s.
St James provides a very intact example of an early Anglican church group which gives a clear insight into early building craftsmanship and the priorities of the Colony’s early settlers.

The Photo:
Some of you may notice that I have a new camera. This is one of the first photos I have taken with it. I resized, sharpened, adjusted brightness and contrast a little and cloned some posts and a chain out from the foreground. Any critiques good or bad will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Debbie

Hi Debbie,
A fine off centered compo, with good luminosity ,colors and sharp details. The fact that the facade does not get direct sunlight, makes it a bit darker but still good texture and details there too.

Hi Debbie. Nice photo. The backlight has given you good colour in the church though the sky is a touch OE. Well composed and good sharpness. Nice work and thanks for sharing.
Cheers, Paul.

Hello Debbie,
Good composition of this interesting church with its detached bell tower. Great detail in the stonework which stands out well against the nice blue sky. Good natural tones.

Hi Debbie,
A simple and frontal, but much effective pov, with very nice colours and sharpness. Very good light management for a photo in which the main subject is on the shadow and the bg is sunlit.
Regards, José.

Hi Debbie,
the trees in the background look a bit dark but for the church (and the whole photo) the light is perfect. The blue sky is marvellous!
