Photographer’s Note
Immediately after I took my photograph of the Wentworth Falls I turned 90 degrees to the right to look out over beautiful Jamison Valley, with the Valley of the Waters and the sandstone cliffs of King’s Tableland to the left. The outcrop to the right is Sublime Point. I couldn’t capture it all in one shot, so what you have before you now is a pair of photographs stitched together. Jamison Valley is a part of the Cox’s River Canyon system in the Blue Mountains. The cliffs surrounding this valley can reach heights of up to 1000 metres. The valley floor as you can see is very densely forested. Those are full grown trees down there, some greater than 50 meters high.
This is one very small part of the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. This blue-green expanse extends 200 kilometers on a north-south axis, covering 10,000 square kilometers. I’ve got a lot of exploring to do.
This particular spot is less traveled than that found at Echo Point (I’ll get pictures of it up eventually too), but I found it just as beautiful, with easier parking. The walk down was a little tougher but very interesting too. One of the earliest visitors and explorers of this spot was Charles Darwin, with Paul de Strzlecki in the 1800’s. He mistakenly surmised that this area was once filled with sea water.
Some of this from: Merideth, Peter and Don Fuchs, The Australian Geographic Book of The Blue Mountains, 1999
Workflow for this photograph was as follows:
Two shots were taken in Raw with a polarizing lens at exposure 1/45 sec f13
The two NEF files were adjusted in parallel for shadows and highlights
They were stitched together into a panorama and cropped. The fit was actually very good. I didn’t see saturation problems between different pictures as I sometimes do.
The new photo was adjusted for curves and saved as a tiff
For this posting I adjusted the image size, framed, sharpened using smart sharpen, and saved as a jpeg.

Very cool shot. I really like how you've pulled the scene out using both photos to create a very wide angle shot. Great colour saturation throughout with a perfect balance of contrast as well. I also like your framing and overall presentation along with a great note. Well done and thanks for sharing. Cheers.

Hi John,
What an amazing picture. I love the vastness feeling here. The deeph of field is very good and we have the eyes to the infinite, the composition and POV also help to this feeling. The light and colors are natural and beautiful. Bravo!

Hi John,
I have been to the Blue Mountains a few months ago, unfortunately all of my photo's got overexposed as I took them on automatic. The light was much stronger and there were hardly any clouds. At what time of day did you take these photo's?
On this one, I realy like it. Very nice colors, a very nice sky to it and a good compo. Well done.

Hi John,
Yes, this is a beautiful lookout point too, though missing the charm of the Three Sisters. Now the sun hits nicely to the cliff on the left. Forest indeed looks dense. Clouds add nice details to the sky.

Hi John - the landscape is pretty enough, but what impressive me the most is the total lack of human impact, the valley looks totally untouched by man, the sky is nice as well.

Hi John,
Beautiful valley landscape with lush green surronding the valley and a lovely blue sky with stunning patterns to its white puffy clouds.

Hello John! Impressive, the trees seem like a carpert, and they go on as far as the eye can see. I like the clouds over the valley, adding some extra drive to the picture. A "nature pure" photo, and I can never get enough of them. Beautiful. Barbara.

hi john
by crikey that's a sweet view. the stitching of the two shots has worked really well. obviously this part of the valley wasn't touched by the bushfires this year. fantastic colours and perspective. i'd love to see this shot a lot bigger, poster size even. well done!

Excellant wide view, John. I like the way you cropped this shot to achieve the panoramic effect. The wide view really is fittine for this composition. Great color and contrast too.

That sky and composition make this landscape panoramic work. The colours in the valley themselves lack a little saturation but that is a minor complaint with a nice, tranquil landscape.

Hello John,
Your Australian images are always such a classic portayal of the ancient landscape. I love the depth of the image, extending into infinity down the valley. I have spent a few days in the area, it is such a great wilderness worth exploring. I am sure you are aware of the amazing Wollemi Pine discovery, proving the remoteness and grand size of the area. Very sharp, clear sky, full of detail and wonder. A breath of fresh air. Thank you for posting.

Hello John,
This is what appears to me as a typical Australian landscape, typical in the sense it can be found nowhere else!
Fertile land, since the forest seems to cover all no matter how steep and rocky the ground!
...
And I wish that a HAPPY NEW YEAR will come your way!
Seasonal greetings from a chilly Norway,
Pablo -

Hi John,
Here you go! f/14!! Why not on the other one?! Look at the sharpness, the detail. And really, if you would stitch this out of 5-7 vertical images, you'd be surprised with the gain in quality! You used 2 here. Horizontal layout? Try PTGui photostitching software if you have saturation problems. It can automatically adjust saturation and exposure for various photographs to be stitched. :-)
Okay, this really is my last comment for the evening. Though the Glenelg Jetty is wonderful! Couldn't you change the light in the lantern there?1 ;-P
Greetings!

John,
a very nice stitch work. I can't see any flaw there! The composition with the rock at the left and the clouds mimicking the rock's movement is a great thing. The static image gets dynamic and almost 3-D.
