Happy New Years from Sydney Photo

Photographer’s Note

The New Years theme in Sydney this year was in celebration of the 75th anniversary year, of the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was to be a Diamond night in the Emerald City. Hence the lit diamond on the bridge. (from: http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/nye/WhatsOn/DiamondNight.html )

This shot was taken from the west side of the city, just as the fireworks started at midnight (Sydney time). They came up fast and furious, as was to be expected.

John, one of these years I will get to see the bridge and photograph the fireworks without the intrusion of trees etc.

I'm glad someone from Sydney posted a picture of the bridge as we have the most spectular New Year fireworks in the world.

A very well taken shot. Great exposure and framing. I like firework photos as it is easy for anyone to take similar shots but impossible to take identical ones. The nuances of exposure ensure that.

You have managed to capture the fireworks well with no visible bluring and the outline of the bridge. Well captured night shot with good framing and filling of the canvas.

Hi John,
Spectacular shot!! But what I especially like about it is the way you've made it time travel. It was taken on Jan 1 07 but submitted on Dec 31 06. That is quite a feat!
You appear to be having a great time down there, it's great to have opportunities to live in other cultures.
Hopefully the Ottawa will have as spectacular a show when the Sen's bring the cup home this year!
