Photographer’s Note

this is a shot from my first sojourn with my nikon d40. unfortunately, the weather was not on my side, so i changed it to black and white. this is brisbane city hall, opened in 1930, after taking 10 years to construct. it can be found right in the heart of the brisbane cbd, and its clock bell can be heard throughout. in this shot, it is about to strike twelve, which made me jump as i was not aware of the time! stupid clock... anyway, d40 rocks!

G'Day Craig,
City halls looks rather imposing from this angle. I thought King George Square was closed at the moment due to the construction etc. Obviously you can still get in. I personally think that the building looks a bit grim in balck and white, i much prefer the Queensland sandstone and blue skies, but I know it was not possible for you on this trip. Overall, I think it looks best at night. Your pic does one thing most other shots do not; it brings out the texture and grain of the stone and shows details well. Merry Christmas.

Hi Craig,
The 1st picture i see from that brand new nikon...not easy to judge with a b&w,i like the texture...a special treatment?the low POV make an effect on the building,

This tower used to annoy me too (when I worked across the road) Makes the day seem really long.
The point of view is great, and the black and white a good coice. The shot is pretty grainy, was that from post processing, or something else?

there's some nice contrast in this shot ... which is achieved by the b&w ... i suspect your choice of monochrome as something to do with the weather! :)

very ominous angles and imposing looking building. good shot!
