Photographer’s Note
The Finke River is considered the oldest river in the world - about 400 million years old - althought it only flows intermittently. This image was taken from the Mt Sonder lookout; this view is probably the very reason I keep coming back to the Western MacDonnell range in the Northern Territory. I've photographed here a number of times, but have never been really happy with the results - this is the case here as well.

You have never been happy with the results? But, isn't it stunning nevertheless? There are so many textures in this photograph. That's what I like about this sort of country. The apparent velvetness of the grass, the ripples in the mountain shadows, the starkness of the tree trunks, the 'spikiness" of parts of the grasses, the variety of greens and browns. Keep at it. I like this one a lot.

The colors of the Earth and trees are striking. It looks like this landscape just goes on and on .. I wonder if a panoramic stitching would finally satisfy what you are seeing in your mind?
wonderful image!
