Photographer’s Note
I was returning to our hotel in Shoal Bay from a day of shooting pictures and I saw this sunset, then I saw the guy fishing in the sunset, waiting until the very last minute to pack up and go home. I had to take this picture.
Shoal Bay is a small resort town on Port Stephens a couple of hours north of Sydney. It is a great place to go to relax, and to take pictures. It is next to Tomaree National Park where there is a great lookout, and some good wildlife waiting to have their pictures taken. And there’s obviously fishing.
There are also supposed to be a lot of dolphins up here, and depending on the season you can go out and watch whales.
The picture was left a little underexposed to keep the fisherman as a silhouette. I straightened it a little and cropped and adjusted a tiny bit for levels. The final jpeg was sharpened.

The sillouhette is what attracted me to this photo, and the beautiful colors. I can tell that your minor editing has made a large impact.

Hi John,
Very nice pic, like the 1/3 rule observed on the horizon and the fact that the fisherman is offset and "contre-jour" with the disappearing sun behind the hills.
My kind of photo, thanks,
Franklin

Very pittoresque. The contrasting colours are key in this picture I find. Silhouette is also well laid out.

Hi John,
Not a finer time to be fishing, the view is stunning and the fishing is grand. Beautiful purple water as the golden sky lights up the distant hills.

Nice shot, lovely colours and the guy is a perfect black silhouette. The boat in the background is a little distracting/messy but it is a very minor complaint. Nice work.

Hello John,
This is interesting composition. I would have opened up the sky because of the beauty during sunset. You have placed the subject in nice silhouette and yet superb sharpness and details cleverly on the left exposing the brilliance of the ripples in the surface. The horizon with a passing boat making this well balanced and very pleasant to see. Well framed and should be sent to the cover of the fishing mags.
Well done and have a wonderful weekend.
Regards,
Jusni
