Photographer’s Note
The Docklands area of Melbourne has several new and intersting buildings and sculptures. This view is from a footbridge over the Yarra River. The building on the right has nice bright primary colours. Architects have finally realised that buildings do not have to be grey.
Scanned from a slide. Polariser used to cut out the glare and emphasise the colours, especially the blue of the sky. I used an unsharp mask to lighten the shadow areas. I also used the free distort tool in Photoshop to straighten out the verticals, which were converging because of the wide angle zoom and the fact that the camera was pointing upwards slightly. I may have overdone the straightening, because the building on the left looks like it widens toward the top slightly(an optical illusion caused by our expectation that verticals should converge when we look up).

Very nice shot, sharp shapes and colours. The sky at the top seems a little too dark to me though, is that because of the polarizer?

Hi Vincent
I love Webb bridge and the architecture in this part of town. The sky is a bit overpolarized but it adds to the graphic effect and goes well with the strong colours of the buildings. Nice to see such a blue sky in Melbourne too. I don't go much for the shadowed frame though as it accentuates the dark corner and distracts below - simple white would have been more effective.
Regards
Nikki
