Photographer’s Note
I took this yesterday, early evening, only 500 metres from my flat. This beach is renowned for its colourful old bathing boxes, about 40 of them. They are very small but also expensive real estate, and when the leases do come up for sale, which is rarely, the cost is around $100,000 Aus (about $75,000 US). I wonder if the owners know the area is rat infested? Needless to say, the wealthy types who own them hardly ever use them. C'est la vie.
At the end of a gleaming autumn day, with not a breath of wind around, there were quite a few people on the beach, including another photographer, and the pensive looking woman (or is she expressing exhaustion in her pose? - she looks 'far away', anyway) with her child. These boxes make good photos at any time, but I particularly went down there yesterday to see how they looked in the late afternoon light. I quite like the result, for the mood as well as the colours.
I didn't have to do much to this one except crop, resize and sharpen a little.

Bonjour Andrew,

Hi Andrew. So, here you are! So much for a late upload. This site is addictive. Anyway, back to the photo. Great decision to use the soft, rich autumn light. Nice composition with good human interest, including the child busy in his own world.Ah, the ubiquitous photographer. Probably another TE member.

Hi Andrew,
Yes, It is a title very adapted for your photo.
The two seated people reading, or thinking, and a boy playing with the sand.
A little while of relax, in front of these wood cabins of beautiful colors and with a great illumination with the so low light of the sun, and beautiful shades.
Fantastic shot.
Regards,
Josep

Hi Andrew
You're lucky living close by. Do you live in one of the amazing "aquariums" ?
I like the composition with the different positions of the people and the graphicism and rich colours of the beach houses. The light is stunning and casts interesting shadows and gives such pretty tones to the sand and bushes.

Andrew, bonjour :-),
Compliments.
Daniel.

Hi Andrew
I thought these brightly coloured beach huts were just an eccentric British phenomenon - I hadn't realised they were global! They make terrific photographic subjects and in your shot are enhanced by the laid back attitude of the people outside them, enjoying the last rays of the low early evening sunlight. Great warmth and atmosphere. Good note too - there are some fashionable places in Britain where beach huts can cost upwards of £40,000 - like Southwold just up the Suffolk coast from where I live.
Well done

andrew,
good note!!
i like the use of light here, you bring out the color very well. nice detail and the different physical expressions from three different subjects are well caught and placed.
by thy are these bathing boxes only for bathing purposes by the beach? if it so , then those rich people are really getting the shot end of the stick!!

Hi Andrew
Wonderful subject at nay time.
There are many photos taken of these colourful beach huts and yours is up there with the best of them.
The control of light and colour is very good and it was a brillient idea to use the late afternoon light.
Great POV.
Well done

Hi Andrew,
I was going through your gallery when I've noticed this. Absolutely fabulous photo! It's like a burst of light! I like the window shutters having different colours and the crossing patterns (first and third horisontal, and second - vertical). Well, everything has different colours here: walls, roofs, and then there are these numbers: 50, 51, 52, they bring some order to this caleidoscope. Needless to say, the people (or their shadows?) are the real subjects and bring the philosophical mood to the picture. They are truly different from each other, and this contrasts the pattern of houses.
I add this to my favourite list. Thanks!
Alexander

Andrew, I really like the way that the light is catching the beach huts and the mix of pastel and vibrant colours. You're a lucky man to have such a view on your doorstep! Paul.

Hi Andrew, Good colourful composition of this nice part of Melbourne. Good note with it too. The inclusion of people can be a good thing. The lady on the left is good addition. These days when possible i try to avoid the public as it can distract due to their presence. The light here is great, maybe the reson the early painters of another era chose this very place, as seen in the art galleries etc. Good work. Murray.

Andrew, tu as réussi cette photo grâce à une excellente composition et une lumière divine sur de très belles couleurs. Les personnages rompent la rigueur géométrique et donnent la vie.
Excellent !
