Photographer’s Note
This is a Kookaburra,Australia`s most beloved bird.
Because of his shouts sounding like laughter he is called "laughing Kookaburra" or "laughing Jack".
He belongs to the family of kingfishers and is only in Australia at home.
This foto was taken at a campground near Halls Gap in the Grampians nationalpark(Victoria).
My campground neighbors,an australian family told me something about this bird, also that he eat nearly everything, even mice, rats and small snakes. And they told me to be careful having a BBQ,because sometimes they try to steel meat from the grill. And in just this moment he flew to the grill and tried, but good luck for us,the steak was too hot for him.

This is an excellent photograph. The bird is crisp, well exposed and stands out from the background. I would be interested to know how close you managed to get.

This photo is excellent the way you have given the kookaburra and branch full focus and the area around it is out of focus. It creates a crisp, clean shot.
Nice one!

I really liked these birds on my visits to Australia. Very nicely framed shot with good light and the bird has typical posture on a branch of eucalyptus tree.

Hi Andreas
A very good photo of the Kookaburra.
It brings back to memory the days when I used to feed some of these birds by hand. They would just love some pieces of two day old steak!
Unfortunately they, along with other breeds, are not as prevelent as they once were. The price we pay for urbanization I guess.
Their laugh along with the beautiful song of the magpie is something I will always cherish.
Great photo and thanks for bringing back the memories.
Regards
Peter

It is a pity your "burra" is without sound! A kookaburra's laughter is something undescribable, something you never forget!Very good picture, especially since it is my experience they like to hide for the camera....

Good composition of this fun bird. Sitting in a gum tree where they are very much at home. Very good clarity as we can see each feather. Well done. They do steal meat of the BBQ, it happened to us recently, unfortunately for both parties he dropped it in the garden on take off. Well done.
