Photographer’s Note

On the Australian coat of arms the Emu and the Kangaroo were selected as symbols of Australia to represent the country progress because they are always moving forward and never move backwards.

Kangaroos are the largest marsupial mammals. They belong to the Macropodidae family.

The great grey kangaroo is a large kangaroo which lives in eastern Australia and Tasmania in forests and open woodlands.

Kangaroos have been known to leap up to 13.5 metres length in one bound. They can travel for extended periods at around 20km per hour, and can travel at speeds of up to 70 km per hour.

Females can rear 3 joeys at a time, one as a foetus, one inside the pouch and one outside the pouch.

Their Latin name (Macropodidae) means large feet.

There are over 40 different types (species) of Kangaroo.
