There is probably a photo from this place uploaded every few weeks to make it the Australian version of Niagara Falls, but I uploaded it now because, as of yesterday THIS VIEW NO LONGER EXISTS. The apostle in front collapsed to the ocean, so there are now only 8 Apostles. Here is the link to the BBC news article.
WS version shows the apostles taken the following morning with direct light.
I am several pages behind in responding to critiques, and did not intend to upload a photo until Friday, but I hope this is news that teaches us about the earth.

Oh yes! The light at this time of the day, as well as the climatic conditions gives to this photograph a single attraction. Absolutely splendid! I envy you to be able to visit all these incredible places. TFS.

Hi Tan, yes this really caught our eyes yesterday when we saw it on a news site. My wife is from Victoria, her family is there and we go back all the time. I'll have to hunt up one of my own and post it too although yours is much better, with excellent light, and a very cool mist between the rocks.
I read that there were people out there, one group of which was taking pictures seconds before it fell. I can't help but imagine what it must have been like to be a tourist standing there looking at something 40 million years old, and you came a long way to see this. Then you raise your camera, shoot... and it crashes into the sea. I think I'd feel responsible!
Roly (2024) 2005-07-05 22:32
Absolutely amazing landscape, very well captured on film. I have not seen a picture from this area yet... The light was excellent and as a consequence so are your colors.

Hi Tan. Great lighting, colour and contrast to this well composed shot. Your note is also most enlightening. The clarity and mood of this shot are outstanding. Great work.
maphoto (8082) 2005-07-05 23:41
Wow Tan, such a beautiful place, gorgeous light that you have captured, excellent framing. I would certainly like to walk on the beach there, very well seen.
quantabeh (5205) 2005-07-06 0:20
excellent work, Tan!
your exposure is superb and the contrast of the colors and tones is beautiful and rich.
I agree with you about the importance of the photo. nice picture to present here.
paulartus (832) 2005-07-06 0:25
wow, this is a really magical shot. The lighting and colours superb. the timing works well also with those long shadows creeping out from the apostles to the right and connecting them with the shore.
Marche (4307) 2005-07-06 1:08
Magnifique photo. Très forte, la lumière du matin et cette brume donne un côté mystérieux et sauvage au cliché.
Bravo et bonne journée.
bebel (7588) 2005-07-06 1:34
nice scene colourfull and very cropped (nette in french) yoour frame is great. The little touch of fog in background is very poetique.

AmiBe (6042) 2005-07-06 2:33
you have maybe landscape of well known places but it's always with a very nice light. So, continue to upload them please !
The colors of the cliffs are superb.
One minute of silence for this rock... ;-)
kabe (2011) 2005-07-06 2:40
I like the composition and prespective.I like the Good textures, light and sharpness.Well done!
Wonderful landscape. Regards, Krzysztof.
KevRyan (22952) 2005-07-06 2:46
I don't think I've yet responded to an Apostle pic so this is perhaps timely before they all start disappearing! The light here is fantastic and I love the deep shadows and almost other worldly feel to this image - I like the perspective of both images you've posted and the well thought out compositions.
best wishes Kev
ps The landscape near Lyme Regis in the UK called the Undercliffs is a startling reminder of how spectacular a big cliff fall can be - it stretches for some distance and is the site of massive undercliff erosion. This is where the film The French Lieutenants woman was filmed. I just googled it and came up with a forgotten haiku I wrote!!

Great photo making a great point: We must take advantage of of the earth's beauty while its here. I was in Paracas Peru a few weeks ago and they said the same thing, that the amazing rock formations were slowly falling to the sea. Nature gives it, nature takes it away.
sylvie (1183) 2005-07-06 4:32
Since I learnt that I was waiting for somebody to post a photo of the 8 Apostles left, yours isn't is't and "old" one but it's beautiful I like the orange tones of the rock, your WS is also very good one. You seem to had a beautiful light there, my photo were taken nearly at dusk at a misty moment. Well done Tan
Timmok (802) 2005-07-06 4:38
Indeed, this place has often been pictured and posted on TE, but you succeeded to post one of the most beautiful pictures on the site, with pretty nice colours.
Too bad this apostle collapsed. Well, that's the way nature goes...
huynt (5079) 2005-07-06 4:52
Woila. A hot topic. Thanks for your wonderful and meaningful shot. Well POV. Now, the first stone have just loss. Best regards.
Paolo (41222) 2005-07-06 5:05
What a great shot Tan, and what a bad news!
excellent POV, quality, light and colors.
PixelTerror (0) 2005-07-06 5:11
A great and clear view of this spectacular site and unfortunately a sad story to come with it, in addition to the excellent perspective I like here the foggy atmosphere and the vivid colors. The WS version is also excellent.
Have a nice day,
spence (65) 2005-07-06 5:36
This is one of the very best shots I've seen of the Twelve Apostles, Tan, either on or off TE. The light is magical, the pov perfect. Excellent work. I hope no more of them crumble away too quickly! Of course more will eventually form from the limestone coast, but it takes time...)
mauricio_matos (417) 2005-07-06 6:18
Ahhh...I just wish I could be there with this light. Knowing the place myself, I just find this picture even more amazing.
dkeus31 (27735) 2005-07-06 6:27
Very nice colors and light in your view.
Good framing, I also like the fog above the sea.
sarju (5324) 2005-07-06 10:27

La je suis vraiment jaloux, quand j'étais la je ne pas réussi a faire une belle Photo de cet endroit merveilleux.
Il y a beaucoup de cet endroit, mais celle-ci est très belle. Joli shot.
lucinka (9976) 2005-07-06 15:06
Tan, there is only one thing I can say - WOW!!
What a gret shot, great scene and great photo conditions. It seems that you have simply travelled all the places I want to see. L.
Tue (27696) 2005-07-06 18:19
Yes, I read about it in the Dutch newspapers. This is a wonderful picture, the lighting and colours are excellent! I also like the long shadows of the apostles. Very well done!
Luan (12971) 2005-07-07 3:38
Outstanding picture again, the place is amazing the light is gorgeous. Very view of these cliffs.
ChrisJ (96568) 2005-07-07 3:59
I may post my old shot of London Bridge (also in this area), before it, too, collapsed. (I went there in the 1980's). There were tourists stranded out on the new island, who had to be evacuated by helicopter!
A fantastic & now historic view of the 12 Apostles. Well done!
coco (30439) 2005-07-07 8:49
Is fantastic. Of all the photos from your gallery that I have seen, this is one of my favourites.
The place is wonderful, and your picture has captured even the place in a best way.
The cropping is necessary and helps to us for see the really important in the landscape. And colours and light are magic.
Thanks for share.
sleon (9402) 2005-07-07 11:03
A wonderful, magical view! The low evening sun adds a really special atmosphere and the colours are beautiful. The WS version shows what a stark difference lighting can make to a scene! I had read about this in the news too, so it's fascinating to see your photo which records the scene for posterity.
nerve (10231) 2005-07-07 13:01
Fantastic Mr. Captain!
What a great POV here! beautiful composition as well, you are one of the best landscape photographers here imho.. Its sad that this apostle collapsed recently..
is this one sided polarized effect due to the linear polarizer i wonder..?
marieaude (1196) 2005-07-07 13:56
Waouhhhhhhhhhhhh, beautiful. This is really great. Veru well done, i like the diagonal perspective of the rocks. And the light is beautiful, giving a strange atmosphere to the place. You are lucky to see such wonderful place. Thank for sharing this beauty.
lukie (0) 2005-07-07 14:03
What a wonderful sight you give us here once again, Tan. Splendid ! Great job ! Thank you.

Merhaba Tan, klasik minolta makinenle gerçekten harika işler yapıyorsun. Bir minoltacı olarak duygulanıyorum kardeşim :)
En içten tebriklerimle... Cengiz.
jpages (1670) 2005-07-07 17:31
Very well known and always impressive view to see of the apostles.
I can't tell you which one I like most, this one or the WS. both ones are great and have a very beautiful light, this more warm, the ws very clear. Being very exigent, maybe this one has too much contrast between the bright top left corner and the darker right top corner, but I know it is scanned. This is really a very beautiful natural place, and you captured all its beauty perfectly.
I didn't know that about the fall of the first one! Nature has a great force! and always imprevisible. Thanks for showing us this great shots.
Jeppe (18654) 2005-07-07 18:55
Wow Tan - what a catch - what a magic light you got here - thanks to the low sun - Yes I was told by an other TE member that this sight not can be seen anymoore - thanks for sharing the photo - a favorite
dolin (15647) 2005-07-08 3:37
Impressive shot with a perfect POV.
I like this light on the rock and fog in the depth.
Beautiful place and colors !!!
(I come back for the smile)
Emile (20350) 2005-07-08 11:21
This is a great shot Tan.
Number one photo, beautiful place, no negative critiques. Excellent picture.
donluicu (24722) 2005-07-08 11:28
wow, the view is amazing for sure, and very well executed..(colors , morning fog, compo), but , knowing that we will not be able to see it again makes it even more strong and impressive.
leonorkuhn (16235) 2005-07-08 13:40
Very nice shot. Superb lightness! Great colors and contrast. Well done.
jbweasle (9373) 2005-07-08 15:29
Tan, this is a stunning shot. The colours, the contrasts and the misty effect are all fantastic. Like you I have a shot of the "old" view and wonder if I should go back again for the new view.
This is erosion in action - the stacks must have been standing for tens of thousands of years and then one falls over - this is like witnessing history happening. Bizarrely one of the arches of "London Bridge" collapsed a few years ago. These two events happened within a second of each other on the global timescale. Weird.
MiguelP (14470) 2005-07-08 16:42
Nothing is permanent, for good or for bad, I like the light here, the mood of what a beautiful life this could be while watching this (by the way, perfect place for a romantic chat). Take care, I deeply like this photo. Direct to my favourites.
MarekP (4750) 2005-07-08 20:21
Great photo with fantastic lightmood. It looks like from a fantasy film. Very interesting note too.

Superb!! I love it the colours on the right hand side, it seems the further you go to the left the less colours there are.
Brilliant! Well done¬!!!
carper (96) 2005-07-10 12:42
This is a hundred pointer, a realy fantastic view, great atmosphere, good light, and fantastic depth, great job, I like it a lot,
Paker (2650) 2005-07-12 12:48
Here's my 3 cents - astonishing. Am I repeating myself ?;-)
scorfel (4294) 2005-07-13 11:51
La lumière est magnifique.
Une seule chose me gène, c'est le coin en bas à gauche ou apparait un morceau de falaise, je pense qu'un cadrage un peu plus serré aurait été encore mieux.
Janice (4403) 2005-07-23 6:45
One of Oz's most photographed scenes Tan, but this is incredible. The colours and the mist make it quite unique. And now one apostle has collapsed, this is history. Well shown, thank you.
adrost (2378) 2005-07-23 11:13
This is Paradise.
Good composition and colors.
erdna (5711) 2005-07-24 10:35

premels (2400) 2005-07-31 12:17
Hi Tan, I'm a bit late to congratulate you on this one. I'll do it anyway: Wow, Tan wonderfull picture. What I like most beside the warm low light is the slight mist floating over the sea. Great view.
mumek (20198) 2005-07-31 15:33
I don't have proper words, to describe a beauty of your art.

Hi Tan, Ideal perspective of this strip of coast. The POV emphasises the subject of cliffs and the sea stacks. A pleasure to see this place in your composition. Murray.
JonasEriksson (70) 2006-06-22 7:42
Wonderful... can't wait to explore Australia and New Zealand too! Amazing colors, and nice how the eye is guided through along the beach towards the misty background.
Xalkida (11744) 2006-06-24 16:33
What a wonderful photo! The view is awesome and your effort was very sucessful. I like very much the soft colors and the marvelous lighting. Good depth, great POV. A wonderful job!
daddo (23817) 2006-07-06 21:36
Greetings Tan. I don't know how I ended up missing this wonderful panorama. It is so dramatic in terms of light, composition and the contrasts in colour. It really captures the timelessness of this coast, the eons that eroded the cliffs into those stacks called the apostles. Great mood. Regards, Klaudio
droop13400 (113) 2006-07-18 12:42
Lumiere, cadrage, utilisation d'un filtre polarisant, les couleurs, le piqué ... que du bon.

Interesting to see the apostles just disappear.
I have a few pictures from the mid ninetees with almost the same view, ill try to see if any of them are worth uploading.
Good light on this one, and i like the slight mist in the horizon.
ruisc_pt (10527) 2007-02-01 3:18
It seems that the sand had cristalized and the vertical golden wall is the result of the process.

What a beautiful shot, everything is captured so well. I like your POV and DOF. TFS
patdeph (35748) 2008-04-02 22:34

pavseljn (75) 2008-11-12 5:49
Only 8?? Didn't there use to be 12? At least when I was there 11 years ago... Interesting note! How's London bridge further down the road doing? :)
The photo is beautiful, I love the golden morning light and the long shadows! My photos of the 12 apostles are washed-out foggy, really dissapointing...
siislam (290) 2008-12-30 8:26
interesting perspective. Good composition and POV.
AnaRita (1741) 2009-07-24 2:13
This beautiful scenery reminds of Algarve (south of Portugal). On the ws I removed the dark rock on the left down corner, hope you like it.
Thank you for sharing, Ana
PainDivine69 (175) 2009-08-08 4:09
what a wonderful landscape! Composition, colours, POV - everything suits perfect! Especially the mist/sea spray between these fantastic rocks attracts me very much!

Noel_Byrne (23252) 2012-10-28 9:26
Splendid photo. the colours rich and luscious, the beautiful greenery, the mists and weather and light, all together make this magical. The fact that the stone you mention is no longer there makes this even more special. Really well done.
All the best
