Wow, what a wonderful view. Those frames I`m not so sure - brave they are of course. I can`t say now so much, I only admire this, Ian.
djnik2004 (1698) 2005-02-20 13:41
Great sea scape, my favourite type of photography, i love these long exposure beach/rock shots. Good use of the filters, not sure about the Frame??
Wolle (148) 2005-02-20 13:46

snuggleaphagus (4146) 2005-02-20 14:48
Amazing clors and a great atmosphere to this beautiful photo. The textrue on the rocks are beautiful. The whole photo almost appears unreal and its just stunning. The frame is not my favorite I don't feel it adds much to the photo.
Thank you for bringing this here.
tontonjc (6623) 2005-02-20 14:49
Splendide scéne. Ce dégradé de couleurs et la netteté font rêver
Albrecht (11281) 2005-02-20 15:07
Very beautiful shot with that long exposure. Well done.
didcreole (962) 2005-02-20 15:54
Great composition, this a marvelous shot. Well done. Unfortunately the sky is noisy and suffer of the jpeg compression, but it's not a big deal.
spence (65) 2005-02-20 17:36
Just beautiful, Ian. I love that rock in the foreground - great textures! The scene is lovely, with the moon a bonus. Nice depth, well chosen exposure. I would prefer a simple black frame I think, but well done - an excellent seascape.
thebecky (688) 2005-02-21 1:33
Beautiful colours and texture, the blues give it a nice feeling of tranquillity. IMO frame is OK.
Cos (1562) 2005-02-21 4:16
Fabulous shot. The colours are wonderful - simply beautiful!
naret (826) 2005-02-21 6:12
Very beatiful beach. Your composition is very beatiful. The slow shutter speed create a beatiful effect.
Nice to see you here.
dkeus31 (27735) 2005-02-21 7:01
A very nice shoot.
Good colors, nice light, good sharpness and nice overall tones.
I just would not put a blue frame.
Saar (571) 2005-02-21 12:37
Hey Ian, looks like I missed out on something in Australia. Beautiful spot! The formations on the rocks are crazy too.
The only thing is: I don't really like the blue frame. I would leave it behind. The pic has enough colour now, as it is.
Take care :) Sarah
phi729 (2101) 2005-02-21 16:57
Hello Ian :)
Wow! You got an excellent result with this ND filter here. The deep blue color of the sky combined with the others blue hues is really fantastic; and the texture's rendering on the rocks in foreground is remarkable! Fine composition work too: The horizon line and the moon are perfectly placed in the frame. Well done for this photograph, Ian.
LCannon (2796) 2005-02-22 0:08
I think the frames are very complimentary of this lovely magical scene. It is so lovely, makes me think of unicorns and wizards somehow. I love the dark color of the sky and the various colors in the rocks. The POV is perfect I think and the rocks at the shoreline in the upper right look almost like a sea monster. Excellet!
quantabeh (5205) 2005-02-22 0:54
a truly unique and original shot with beautiful composition and excellent POV.
thanks for sharing.
mumek (20202) 2005-02-22 6:43

alford (3989) 2005-02-22 20:59
WoW! This is very nice, Ian! The blue colors really catch the eye, the texture of the rocks is so crisp and the moon is positioned perfectly in your shot - such a wonderful combination! Very good work! rgds.
leschamb (371) 2005-02-22 21:03
This photo is beautiful.
The rock in the foreground is perfectly exposed. I'm surprised the moon can illuminate things so well. Very nice.
Aymeric (553) 2005-02-23 4:10
Unfortunately, the sky does not seem reel. You should have used the median tool on it i think. I'm not fond of the frame.
Clochette (8076) 2005-02-23 7:56
God, this is unreal.. As shot on an unknown planet. Really excellent, Ian. We have still a lot to learn (and to see) about your beautiful country. Thank you.
Graal (102928) 2005-02-23 12:36
Beautiful picture. Here very good colours, saturation and sharpness. Composition ok.,too. Well done.

maphoto (8082) 2005-02-23 21:28
So beautiful Ian, wonderful beach view and great colors. Perfect vertical presentation, the 1/3, 2/3 rules well executes, very nice view on the horizon, great work.
ChrisJ (114689) 2005-02-24 3:34
Wow! A superb result for this astonishing time exposure. I'm not sure about the pp layering in the sky. I suppose it's a personal preference, or an acquired taste. However, the graphism, colour, pov, sharpness etc, are all outstanding. Well done!
richtersl (3546) 2005-02-24 8:17
The light in this photo is superb! The smooth texture of the water created by the long exposure makes it look like it's part of the rocks.
tityop (6225) 2005-02-24 11:40
Je trouve la couleur de la roche magnifique ! un rendu des détails superbe.
tres bien capturé
arth (1454) 2005-02-24 14:14

singuanti (15250) 2005-02-26 21:09
good grief what an awesome shot. your focus, composition and saturation are all just so good. those ND filters seem to do an excellent job. truly great work!
Cpamoi (10391) 2005-02-28 2:03
Très belle image, la texture des pierres est superbe, bon cadrage.
Un petit point négatif pour le dégradé du ciel qui ne parait pas naturel.
jjbach (9324) 2005-02-28 9:43
Excelent night shot and a fantastic result!!
Magnificent colors, perfect clarity in the foreground!! Great job!
nbournas (3229) 2005-02-28 11:18

Exceptionnel Ian. Encore une dans mes favoris. C'est splendide. Les couleurs sont fabuleuses. Merci pour le partage. Amitié, Patty.
nwoehnl (122) 2005-03-01 15:03
Marvelous shot, Ian - destined to become a TE classic. The low angle, the evening light, the soft effect on the water from the long exposure, the crisp detail on the foreground rocks and beachside elements - all great. And as if that was not enough yet, the added treat of having the moon rise above this. Really good.
Kolyamour (1760) 2005-03-05 2:12
This is fantastic photo! I like it very much! I understand why it is your favorite photo.
luigi_pirex (73) 2005-03-06 9:00
Hello Ian! This is truly a great exposure work, with lovely clarity and water texture, interesting subject and apropriate composition! Very good!
steveegg (418) 2005-03-06 13:48
This is a very satisfying composition with the line of rocks curving up and off to the right, the distant rocks to the left providing balance, the patch of sand and the moon as a final destination for ones attention.
Within this, it's the textures that seem the heart of the shot, with the fascinating and eerie rock surfaces and sea clouding from the long exposure. A shot to be proud of.
AmiBe (6042) 2005-03-07 16:27
Beautiful shot !
Excellent exposure time, beautiful water effect and nice colors.
teta5 (1203) 2005-03-11 4:12

Ramonven (126) 2005-03-12 13:46
Wow Ian! What a spectecular shot! It really looks like another planet or something! Or a dream... There is something really special about this picture! that is for sure! Take care!
clodreno (0) 2005-03-13 4:21
A superb image Ian.. well done.. colors are wonderful.. and the landscape beautiful.
I am not too fond of the frame though, it's distracting my eye from the image , I would choose a neutral one..or white or black..
toni_al (15875) 2005-03-14 7:46
Wuaoooo! elle est superbe, très bonne composition.
PLD_images (7149) 2005-03-14 9:54
Not much can be said here. Just wanted to add that I find this an wonderfull image.
Gregtom (7169) 2005-03-14 14:31
Fantastic photo, Ian! Wonderful colors, sharpness and composition. Very impressive!
donluicu (24724) 2005-03-17 5:10
this picture is really amazing...how can you get the foreground so clear and bright, by night??
The use of the tripod is really appropriate, the waters looks so smooth..
congratulations and thanks for sharing
DAM (153) 2005-03-20 17:36
Ian, one of the most spectacular photographs by the water I have seen yet. My hats off.... BRAVO. Thanks
Benedetto (437) 2005-03-21 9:25
Very good work.
Gix (3565) 2005-03-23 1:21
another super moon on the sea! You make a fantastic publicity to Australia!
Si crisp and detailed... and so 'magic' in the same time.
Thank a lot, i add it to my 'moon collection'!
p.s.: the blue on the frame is for me very appropriate, in accord with the sky
flagman (298) 2005-03-30 4:08
Beautiful colours and nicely framed. I wonder if it's a little over-sharpened, though.
avis2avis (4264) 2005-04-01 0:56
Wow! Surreal stuff. Superb exposure. Totally out of this world. But why the strange blue border?
travelyurt (276) 2005-04-01 11:33
A really neat shot, and well-executed. The moon and darkness in the background and the lightness and detail up front really make it interesting. I like very much the softness of the water, too. I am not a fan of frames to begin with, so this one neither strikes me as good or bad. I just feel they take up valuable space that could be used to see the photo in better detail.
Hanso2 (633) 2005-04-03 9:13
What can I say???
colinbrenchley (6431) 2005-04-03 11:29
Your long exposure shots of the sea are second to none. The detail in the rocks is superb.
Hanssie (10802) 2005-04-03 11:30
The foreground, very well composed in a very good light, nice textures on the rocks, I like this one, Ian, nice done !
IaKoop (819) 2005-04-04 16:25
Wonderfully surreal. An inspiration to learn more about filters.
jrzufferey (7305) 2005-04-04 17:16
Absolument magnifique Ian. Ciao/jr
ephemere33 (9743) 2005-04-04 18:42
superbe photo , excellente composition avec ces tranches de roches ...baignées dans la mer...la lune donne le plus bel effet bien rendu ...bravo pour ce travail...merci....amicalement BI
sandpiper (6788) 2005-04-15 9:25
Great shot and great use of the long exposure. textures and mood are really good. Easy to see why this one attracted so much attention. Well done.
jinju (14265) 2005-04-21 23:54
I have to add this spooky photo to my favorites list. The blues are so deep. The moon is great but for me the star of the photo is the water.
goerhal (781) 2005-04-26 3:12
Thank you for this great picture! I find the rock in the foreground interesting because of the pattern on it, i guess they are not made by humans.
davy (231) 2005-05-23 11:43
lovely colours and details in the fore ground, a great composition, Davy
Cricri (120143) 2005-08-20 16:35

MON (135) 2005-08-23 16:08
Hey, a perfect night shot!. I like all: composition, colours, effect in the water. The worst: only I can mark you two points. Well done!
sarju (5324) 2005-08-26 6:28
for a person like me who loves low light conditions photography this is a fantastic shot ... but I had one question for you though ... How come the moon has come out without any twinkling effect .... is it because of the filter you were using ... your comments would be greatly appreciated
cheers .... sarju
PS: WOnderful pics in your gallery ... it was a pleasure to go through them
rabani (9645) 2005-10-10 23:10
Smooth, well defined and surreality. That, I would say is your style Ian.
waysai (609) 2005-10-14 21:41
Clean and sharp. Composition and color are the best of your work. Amazing shot.
clic (17129) 2005-10-22 19:21
Surrealistic picture and excellent use of ND filter and post processing.
banyanman (7789) 2005-10-26 10:25
Thought I had critiqued this one before, Ian, but must have missed it. Another great example of your talent with the grad ND filters and PP. Pity about the compression problem in the sky, but that probably can't be avoided with a 200kb file size and so much saturation in the colours. Cheers . . . David
Facsi (212) 2005-11-03 5:27
Beauty shot, sci-fi feeling, I like it so much. Great work, congratulation. The frame is good choice. It's pity, there are pixel errors at the top.
tabora (0) 2005-12-17 11:37
Tous les tons sont très nets, comme didier j'aurais mis un autre cadre
ggg (83) 2006-03-04 18:01
hamerek (466) 2006-08-30 6:29
For me the photo is absolutely amazing! It's like a scene taken from a dream. The strucure of the rocks contrasts with the mist floating over the water. Very good choice of perspective.
placombe (7901) 2006-12-06 22:08
Superb shot rendering a surrealistic look. Very amazing.
sebcz (2345) 2007-02-14 6:49
Wow, amazing work. So detailed, well composed, well adjusted in PP process. The moon is unbelievable. All the blues are just hypnotising.
Goes to my faves as well.
MLINES (12516) 2007-02-23 15:26
Hi Ian. Quite a surreal effect you have created here. Excellent POV and colours. This could be suitable for a national geographic cover. Well done. Murray.
pady (4800) 2007-02-26 14:13
What a strange atmosphere !!
But I like it very much. It's a very well composition and it works.
Stones are interesting
benkrut (2407) 2007-03-04 14:14
This is my favourite of your pictures. Beatifuly captured rocks and sea. Your name doesn't lie - the picture is very sharp and clear. As someone said before - the frame isn't pretty. Black one would be more suitable for this photo.
cimcim (3712) 2007-03-06 5:52
Wonderful capture, amazing photo!
The combination of perfect techique and beautiful view given you a GREAT photo!
snowfalken (1116) 2007-03-06 13:34
This is an absolutely amazing photo about nothing! You proved that a real artist doesn't need much to create art. Of course, there is a beach, a moon and the sea in this picture but I bet there are many photographers who would ask "what should I photograph here?" if they were in your place. But you saw the beauty of the textures and colors on the ground and anticipated the incredible effect a long shutter speed would create with those waves. On top of all that, the rising moon creates just the perfect atmosphere to contemplate the magic view. By placing the horizon line high in the picture you show everything that's below it and follow the rule of thirds. Exceptional work of art! Very well done! Thank you!
With Friendly Regards,
labro33 (2807) 2007-03-10 18:34
What can i say about this shot...with one word pure SCULPTURE...
Thanks for sharing...
batalay (38943) 2007-03-20 16:54
I can only join the chorus of admirers of this remarkable photo, and many of your others in your gallery. This is virtually a surrealistic image of the moon above the surf in Queensland. The composition, texture, colors and definition are all first rate.
DLM (6479) 2007-06-16 15:10
Stunning work Ian,
wonderful light and texture,
rajhema (1873) 2007-07-28 4:41
Very beautiful and attractive picture. For 8 seconds, the moon did not move. Its good. front side brightness on the rocks are little dramatic. Great one.
xavis (3180) 2007-07-28 4:50
Great!
fserajian (2299) 2007-09-22 15:23
Lovely shot and well composed. TFS
Dyerco (10185) 2007-12-09 7:47
Wonderful detail in the FG rocks and a nice overall exposure. The sky is appearing to be somewhat layered. I have had this problem myself especially with dark blue skies. Very well done.
porto62 (2313) 2007-12-09 17:18
Hi Ian,real great shoot, some great lightening and colours a great full moon pict.Alain

Really nice Peace of Art
Well done keep it up
cherryripe (21033) 2008-04-15 12:19
OK you posted this before I joined TE and to up the general quality of this site, you should post more photos like this one. It's a stunner. I really like the details of the rocky foreground and how it contrasts with the movement of the frothy water. The surreal sky works well too.
THY (1657) 2008-07-26 9:31
You have only posted 30 photos but you gain almost 2000 marks. This is fabulous. Coming across to your album, there are so many nice photos. Quantity in your album is not too many but the quality is toppest. I understand you have put a lot of efforts in every post including the desin of the frame and the p.p. work.
Congratulation. You are the God in TrekEarth.
