Novel ideas, creative use of city's landmarks, provocative and though provoking installations- these are all part of the White Night festival which in its second year drew more than half a million people to the centre of Melbourne city.
The last thing we photographed around midnight was the wall of the National Gallery of Victoria which featured projections (no idea how they did it)of tattooed bodies of Melbournians and in my workshop you can see closeups of some tattoos put together to make a giant canvas. The festival ran from 7p.m. to 7a.m. After midnight the city was left to the young of foot. After four hours of walking, I had enough.
No tripod by the way. Just a steady hand and a halt to breathing.

For a hand-held photo this is extraordinarily sharp. Initially, I thought the backs (right side of the frame) were real, but then as my eyes moved to the left I saw the long queue of Lilliputians under the arch. Wonderfully eye catching composition.

Amazing event and amazing photo from it. I have seen already a few photos from this festival but this photo beats them all. How they make it? Splendid idea . I am looking forward to seeing more pictures from it.

What a fantastic presentation of this interesting event ad! The scene looks extremely interesting and eye catching due to the well selected POV and great result with the perspective. Very well managed and composed one! TFS.

Super image of this night shot and projection of these tattooed people, great Pov, love the reflections, especially the arch and people going underneath it.
Well managed, and steady hand.

Ciao caro Klaudio
This is a humdinger of a photo, one that Santo would dearly love, knowing his obsession with tattoos. The reflections make it even more special and I'm flabbergasted that you shot this freehand, as the image is pin sharp and those reflections are like a looking glass. Stunning exposure and colours. What a beauty!

wonderful photo taken hand held, impressive at that slow shutter speed.
I know I would have been apart of those people attending this event, it looks pretty cool indeed.
colorful photo, and i like that you got in the archway with its reflections...that never hurts :)

Another nice sharp and bright photo. The reflections work well. It would have been impossible to set up a tripod here - it would have been trampled by the hordes of people. The high ISO makes a difference. With my camera any ISO higher than 400 has so much noise it's not worth using.

A stunning shot this, full of originality and so beautifully conceived. The effect is mesmerising and almost Sci-Fi in atmosphere - I love it!

crikey that is impressive, not only the colour and range of tatooes but also the fact that this is hand held, the images are pin sharp throughout with the reflections adding that extra zing.A cracking shot.

Although I'm not at all enthusiastic about tattoos, I like your colourful night photo. Well selected point of view, arched door well placed and nice reflection. Sharp too. There's a "nuit blanche" also in Montréal this coming week-end, 11th year this year. Was a bit surprised by the expression "white night"; I thought it was typically French for expressing a night where one doesn't sleep.

Oh wow! It looked intriguing as a thumbnail but this image is even more interesting than I expected. Clever composition - I really like the juxtaposition between the installation and the small silhouettes of real people.

this must be an exciting night for the inhabitants and visitors of Melbourne. It must be great to look for the new artistic ideas in the familiar streets of your city. This picture is wonderful and gives us an idea of the art exhibited and of the people's approach. Your composition has excellent perspective that leads from the attractive, big images to the crowd of tiny, real people in the background. I love the luminous colours against the dark setting. The warm light through the archway is captivating, almost symbolic. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

Great perspective shot and wonderful capture- especially considering the hand held exposure. I particularly like the column of people feeding into the golden arch sitting on that sweet third line :)
Have a great Tuesday
