Today I went with my brother-in-law to experience what GG (Grape Grazing) was all about. The idea behind it is to visit wineries which are participating in the festival, taste various wines, try some local food and maybe buy a bottle or two.
I took this photo of an apron in the gift shop in one of the wineries and the resulting image is purely the result of accidental setting with aperture priority and subsequent snail slow shutter speed which eventuated in the blurry image. Rather than delete the image I saw the double humour behind it and decided to post it.
Behind the humour of my image is a story of communities in the Yarra Valley which were devastated by the terrible fires five years ago and which have bounced back with an indomitable spirit and were ready this year to once again celebrate life and renewal with its popular wine festival. A brief history is attached which I got from grapegrazing.com.au:
The Yarra Valley Grape Grazing Festival was first run in 1988 with 13 participating wineries. It was originally held on a Sunday in early March to celebrate the onset of vintage, and promote the enjoyment and variety of wine produced in the Yarra Valley in conjunction with fine food prepared by some of Melbourne’s best known restaurants.
Wineries teamed up with Melbourne’s restaurants to offer patrons the opportunity to enjoy their wines perfectly matched with entrée sized meals, whilst enjoying the wide choices of entertainment that was on offer. Patrons then “grazed” around the Valley, enjoying each winery’s offerings at their leisure.
The initial event was so successful that in the late 1990s it was extended to encompass an entire weekend and held on the third weekend of February. At its peak, the Grape Grazing Festival was attracting over 20,000 visitors to the Yarra Valley annually and was considered the leading regional food, wine and tourism festival in Australia.
On 7th February 2009 the Black Saturday bushfires swept through the Yarra Valley one week before the 2009 Grape Grazing Festival was scheduled to take place. The fires tragically destroyed many lives and properties including a winery that was to be participating in the festival the following weekend. The 2009 Grape Grazing Festival had to be completely postponed days out from it taking place and was eventually held April of that year. After that difficult year, the decision was made to rest the Grape Grazing Festival with a view to bringing it back, renewed and refreshed at some point in the future.
After a groundswell of support from Yarra Valley businesses, 2014 will see the return of the Grape Grazing Festival in its new reinvigorated format, extended to take place over three days. Featuring the Yarra Valley’s best wineries, restaurants, food, cider and ale producers along with venues showcasing more than 60 events, the new 2014 Grape Grazing Festival offers something for everyone.
WORKSHOP:I have also included another example of apron wine humour, this time with deliberately chosen exposure settings.

Great "drunk" image which should be used to as a poster to promote the event!
You should be glad you forgot about those camera settings. ;)

You should have pretended it was deliberate! However a great piece of serendipity here, and the visual joke is well made. I really like this!
