In January I posted First Swim of 2013 here. This is a photo of the same place taken a little later in the evening to mark my last swim of 2013 at Coogee ocean rock pool.
I wish you all a very happy, healthy and fun New Year full of trips and photos.

nice the view of the swimming pools with the yellowish colour tints to make the image so effective and unique.I like the calmness as the beauty of the place.
Wishing you a very Happy New Year ahead,Danos

For some reason this reminds me of a scene from conan the barbarian, it looks like the type of place where you might end up fighting monsters :) I reckon it's the darkness and the yellow tint to the Alsace that makes it look a little otherworldly. There is a magical sense I this scene, and I can only imagine swimming here at night. As I am about onto step out in a beautiful winters storm, I can only say rather you than me. You really handled the
Light magnificently here, the combination of soft light and abject dark is amazing to view.
And to you Lisa, the bet of everything for the year ahead for you and your, may the light always be on your side. To 2014, I raise a wheat juice.

Swimming in January in the night time, how exotic! I like the atmosphere here and the arrangement of the concrete blocks. Carefully exposed and with excellent sharpness. All the best to you and yours for 2014.

ye olde lisa! getting old, you also obtain some customs like showing the same place in new year's vicinity. i don't know which one i do like the most, but this night version does look cool enough. so do they really swim in there? it looks quite "muddy" :)... all the best to you through 2014. i wish you good trips and photos as well.

looks like little nuggets of gold or is it fudge - OO! too much Xmas indulgence me-thinks. This is such an enticing looking pool - and I cannot swim and the thought of being in the water in the dark fills me with dread! A wonderfully creative image though Lisa, it is original and unique. All the very, very best for 2014.
Just keep swimming! (Courtesy of Dory in "Finding Nemo")

Happy New Year as well. I wish you trips and pictures: the best cocktail of all, with some mine and proscuito.
Here , I like the play with lines, the softness of the water and a nice control of the light.
Have a great year.

I had nearly finished my critique of this super picture when I was cut off by another power cut - so I have started again. We had one lasting three days over Christmas but fortunately were able to make other arrangements for dinner. The storms just keep bashing the UK and are lined up across the Atlantic. Certainly not swimming weather!
I love the yellow light giving an eerie look to this rock pool. Not sure that I would want to swim in it! Excellent use of the concrete shapes and the darkness of the sky.
Happy New Year,

Nice attached same place pcture on a diff. hour, Lisa.
Hope you enjoy the sweem in any season, the place looks attractive for a night dip.
Enjoy the year end, and with many hopes - have a happy new year, my dear.

yikes, you can go for a swim here, looks kinda spooky at night! in fact, it may just BE your 'last swim' if ya know what i mean!
but i truly do enjoy the black areas, its really black!
but thats the point, to give it a sweet contrast and mood right? works well for me!
Happy New Year! lets hope for lots of good travel and even better travel pics!!!!

I remember your first shot of this place and I´m glad to see you take us here again.
It looks magic, dreamy and kind of mysterious(I think it must be because of the long shutter speed?the water surface makes it really amazing!)
Also colors and contrast between them help you to achieve so unique visual effect.
Wish You a Happy New Year!
ktanska (24758) 2013-12-30 11:32
A brilliant pair of shots! You don't reveal the exposure time, but it is long enough to make the sea perfectly soft cloudy layer. And the pools have a smooth mirror. Greenish tone of the light goes well with deep blue sky.
Happy New Year!

Ciao cara Lisa,
I know this place of your first and last swim in the year:) Thank you for your great hospitality and fun we had in Coogee and later.
Beautiful night shot. May your each day in New Year will be blessed with peace, prosperity and happiness

this is a very interesting photo, especially in comparison with the other one: they show the same view but at the same time they are so different because they convey different moods! As compared to the other one, thanks to the darkness and the colours this photo reminds me of some mysterious fantastic scenes in sci-fi movies about distant planets!
Judging by the same POV in both photos, I presume you used a tripod which you did not move a bit? :)
Wish you a Happy New Year 2014!:) Health, happiness, prosperity to you and yours!

very beautiful composition. Perfectly well done. Love it. Best regards and have a Happy New Year 2014, Barbara

Interesting scene with the classical ocean pool architecture appearing like a submerged ancient civilization?
I hope your waters are warmer than ours in California which come north from Alaska?
And a night swim is always excellent. I have many fond memories of swimming and body surfing at Huntington Beach for most of my youth into young adulthood and miss it now.
Best wishes for a great New Year all year long,
Your California buddy,

This is a very symbolic image, a very fitting and beautifully crafted image to end the year full of meaning. There is still a lot of darkness, but warm glow has come into the world. It shines out and it draws us in and as midnight strikes may:
I Wish You a Very Happy New Year
Royaldevon (29597) 2013-12-31 11:55
Thank you for your good wishes, cara Lisa.
This is a tranquil shot where the hues move from light to dark. Symbolically, the year reaches its end and fades into darkness. The hues and the textures make this special.
May I wish you and your family a happy and healthy New Year. I look forward to your continued, delightful posts next year, Bev :-)

I have been to Bondi Manly and Palm Beach but never to Coogee or Cronulla. One of these days perhaps. Love the motion blurred water and soft silky effect. Nice warm cold color contrasts between the blue and gold with superb sharpness. Have a great New Year which is still 2 hours away here but has come and gone there.

Ciao cara Lisa,
Writing this critique in the evening of the last day of 2013, I realise that for you it is now already 2014!
How very fitting that your first and last photographs of 2013 should be from exactly the same place and almost identically composed, though with different light.
The light here is sublime and, although people rave about "blue hour" skies, the total blackness of the sky here is absolutely perfect. Your long exposure has smoothed the water beautifully and the reflections are superb.
Have a Wonderful New Year, Lisa!

Greetings for 2014 !
A wonderful image of the pool with a dreamy color tone. Fantastic.
I wish lots of joy, happiness and good health for you in 2014. Happy New Year !

Ciao cara Lisa,

Gidday dear Lisa,
Wow, what an illustration of the differences that lighting can make, this one has an eerie vibe about it...I'm expecting someone undead to rise out of that water wearing a hockey mask and wielding a chainsaw!? Is that why no one is out for a swim?? Spooky cool! :)
I'm loving the shapes comprised within this composition, and some of their reflections. I'd say it's a relatively minimal scene, but there's more to it than meets the eye...and the fade to black really pumps up that dark and moody atmosphere. Great textures, and the artificial light with it's yellow tint has worked in your favor here, I like how this turned out. Hope you holidays were fun filled, but not over-indulged. hehe All the best to you and yours in 2014 V2, take good care!
Friendly wishes from the red, white and blue.
