This is Bronte Beach, one of Sydney's City Beaches just before dusk. Although the sun sets in the west behind me, the Eastern sky will often turn an amazing array of pinks and purples before the sun sets completely. I had escaped from work to go for a swim a few minutes prior to taking the photo. The water was beautiful. Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd was playing on the Ipod as I took this shot.
You can listen to it too Comfortably Numb

Very beautiful image. Excellent lighting and composition. Rocks are well seen in the background.

A great photo of an attractive slice of NSW's dramatic coastline. There is some pretty expensive real estate show too. I like the mood that the pink sky and misty water provides. The foreground rocks invite the viewer into the frame. The photo title also caught my attention as I heard this song performed by Floyd's singer Roger Waters live a few weeks ago in Brisbane. Great stuff.

Rocks that are submerged in water and city view above the horizon line of sea cliffs and warm water, clear vision and your photos are unique
Have a nice day

I like the soft pastel colors & subtle warm cold colour contrasts between the blue sea & pink sunset skies. The bg cliff adds graphism & a focal point. Good lead in lines with the fg rocks. Excellent motion blur of the waves. Have a nice weekend!

Aha Lisa - A fellow PF listener. What I like about this shot are the soft colours and subtle shifts in tone and hue. The mid-ground is a wonderful wash of colour whose softness is a perfect foil for the flat rocks in the FG and crisp headland on the horizon. Have a good weekend and warm regards rosemary

Ta longue pose crée une atmosphère et des couleurs intéressantes. Très bon cadrage et belle maitrise de la profondeur de champ. Une très bonne photo!

I have a CD I often listen to "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd, and what a perfect matched title, Lisa - very creative in mind you are.
Exp. was immaculate, and orange tone on sky's was fabulous collected.
Lovely, enjoy your weekend.

A good one Lisa - I do like the textures of the rocks in the foreground. The rest is classic you!

You going for song title references too? For a while I used to post only song title references, though recently I failed miserably and had to resort to a few non-musical titles for posts. Still feel bad about it, though. Anyway, I digress.
Another comfortable picture you've posted here. Good textures on the stones, as is essential in this type of shot.
Does this name Bronte Beach have anything to do with the writing sisters up on the moors?
Cheers & have a most rewarding weekend

love this! So moody yet mellow and tranquil. Love the fg detailing and the smokey sea that leads the eye to the beautiful colours in the sky. Awesome work!
Enjoy the weekend - regards Brian.

I like this song very much. I have been following Pink Floyd six 1972 when they came to Montreal for the show " Dark side of the moon".
I like your time of exposure that gives a nice texture to the surface of the sea,
Have a great weekend

Intriguing vision for the upclose dominating, marine encrusted bolders, and the background of misty water flow with pink sky.
Is the snorkeling good here?
Excellent work as always,
Your California Friend,
PS: California is moving on its Pacific plate two inches a year, I calculate we will arrive in OZ in 500 million years,,,

le tue foto si riconoscono tra mille.
Il modo di come ci presenti l'acqua è incredibile.
Sembra seta sotto il cielo.
Molto bella la canzone dei Pink Floyd di cui io sono un fan.

There is no doubt there is a wonderful but short period of only a very few minutes after the sun has just dropped nelow the horizon in the west and has ceased to light the ground - during that brief spell the sun still illuminates the clouds and sky in the east with a wonderful warm glow - and this is what you have caught so expertly here.
Not only have you caught the sky, of course, but also its reflection in the soft milky sea, the result of good timing and a long shutter opening. The foreground rocks anchor the composition perfectly too.

this is another lovely coastal scene. the foreground is quite dramatic and really captures the viewers eye straight away. it leads very nicely into the rest of the picture with the wonderfully atmospheric sea and the sense of movement you have achieved by the 6 sec shutter speed. the effect is superb. the headland on the horizon adds a further point of interest, while the sky has some lovely subtle colour tones. the whole scene is very calming and relaxing in nature.
have a great sunday.
ps. i'm sitting waiting for my lift as i'm heading off to spend a day in the mournes, humming carrickfergus with van morrison. now it's competing in my head with pink floyd.

Hi Dear Lisa,
Again a very beautiful composition, a classical for Lisa I can say. Very nice framing and exposure control. Thanks for sharing and have a nice sunday.
iainsp (2626) 2012-02-26 5:19
You are only coming through in waves ...
Stunning forergound and the darker rocks to the right are fantastic. I love the way the sea seems to have a very low mist hanging over it.
I will accept I am in a minority of one on this one, but the buildings on the rocky outcrop do not do it for me. I would have liked to have seen an unbroken horizon: I think the stunning long exposure effect, the fantastic fore- and middle-ground and the muted late afternoon colours are more than strong enough to stand up by themselves.
Have fun, warm regards, Iain
yquem46 (35290) 2012-02-26 5:27
nicely composed with the rocks at FG and the long pose
But, to me, most of the impact is in the delicate gradient of pink/blue hues in the sky and the reflections
A top quality shot, extremely well worked up
have a nice sunday
All the best

reading your note, Tosca came to mind as Pink Floyd is actually her all time favorite band!
many of us have our own style of photos that can be noticed a mile away, and this one is certainly your style. I didn't even have to look at the name below the photo, i knew you took it :)
a fine color set. you really like your pink hours dont you! more than anything, the atmosphere shines through with that peaceful tone.
enjoy your day, see you around

Hello dear Lisa
Beautiful pastel hues especially the pink, which merges almost seamlessly with the pale turquoise in the water. The slow shutter speed creates a silk like effect on the rocks in the FG. Fine work!

Ola Lisa ,

I am not sure if Pink Floyd's song turned the sky lavender but the tone is so beautiful. Great place to take away from work and a dip. The inclusion of the fg rock is perfect in this slow shutter capture. Great view and quality composition.
Thanks and have a great week ahead.

Very good use of the slow speed with steam on the sea .
Very good composition.
