Photographer’s Note

Now! I’m really sorry about this one. I mean it must be one of the most iconic, and over photographed buildings in the world and there are hundreds of pictures of it on Trekearth already. So why the heck post yet another one? I hear you say.

I have taken dozens of pictures of it from all sides, but it is this hackneyed and predictable, side view that seems to show of its sculptural qualities at there best. I took this picture –from Circular Quay, - just as the light was fading and the lights were coming on and I felt that it looks a bit special at that time. That’s my excuse, anyway.

It was designed by the Danish architect Jørn Utzon, in 1957 but not completed until 1973. Following a dispute, Jørn Utzon, left the project before the completion and the interior and acoustics are said to be not the best. It is about to undergo a multi million dollar refit, which Jørn Utzon, is scheduled to supervise himself. It is the only building by a living architect to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
