Photographer’s Note
The founder of Virgin Blue, the flamboyant Aussie/Briton has got quirky ways of naming his airlines. The latest addition to the portfolio, V Australia's name was selected in similar way to all the others.
The name of Virgin Blue's international airline was decided in the same way that Virgin Blue's own name was found, with a public naming competition conducted in early June 2007.
On 25 June 2007, Virgin Blue released the 8 finalists[citation needed] of the naming competition. They were:
* Matilda Blue
* V Australia Airlines
* Australia Blue
* Virgin Pacific
* Amelia Blue
* Didgeree Blue
* Liberty Blue
* Virgin Australia
Australia Blue and Virgin Pacific were early favourites to win the competition, despite a problem with the latter, as Singapore Airlines (through their stake in Virgin Atlantic) have control over the use of the 'Virgin' name on International air routes, and have not, in the past, allowed its use (see Pacific Blue Airlines.)
On 25 July 2007, Virgin Blue announced that V Australia will be the name of the new carrier, with the runner up of the competition, Didgeree Blue, to be the name of the airline's first plane.
The Channa family was waiting to board their plane back to Melbourne from their holiday in sunny Queensland.

Hi Kamran,
Nice presentation. Well seen and well framed.
I have flown a few times to Qld on Matilda Blue.
How did the red rooter become mirrored here?
Cheers,
Graham.

Hello Kamran,
This is a very well spotted subject. The colours are so intensed and the photo quality is first classed.
Cheers

Seriously :)...this is the logo on the aircrafts..two piece..that not even a bathing suit or a bikini..there are no straps!!..gosh..what are they trying too sell or represent !!
i can imagine..50 years from now..the white tube..or whatever it is and the blue hot pants..will be out of fashion..and not required anymore..
really it has got me thinking..will the Channa family be comfortable with that ????

Hi Kamran. I am amazed at the work of the artist. Somehow reminds me of the whole of the figureheads of the old sailing ships. Really worth seeing. Best regards, wolfgang.

Hello Kamran,
The colour red has a way of attracting attention in pictures. And it couldn't get much redder than this. But I am curious of that Matilda Blue figure. She looks like she could have been advertising beer 50 years ago, or maybe appearing in a Playboy cartoon 40 years ago. Where she will be 50 years from now I don't know. All I know is that in 50 years I will be free from all problems.
Regards,
Gert
