Photographer’s Note

Ben Hall was a "bushranger" in the 1860s. He used to rob stage coaches carrying gold from the gold fields around Grenfell (Central West NSW).
He hid in various caves around the Weddin mountains, including a cave known as Ben Hall's Cave. This is the view from the entrance to the cave which he liked because he could spot the police troupers.
These days you can't go into the cave (safety reasons!) but when last I had been to the cave in 1989 with my son you could. That time it was raining but I took a photo of my son sitting in the cave entrance (see the workshop). After a huge downpour came we slept in our vehicle and had to drive through flood waters to escape in the morning.
