Photographer’s Note
Offering stunning views of the city and covering more than 40 hectares, Sydney Park has, over the last 20 years, been transformed into vibrant and ecologically significant parkland. The park is a large recreational area in the inner-city area of Sydney (7 kilometers from the Central Business District).
The parklands sit on the borders of the suburbs, St Peters and Alexandria.
Sydney Park is forty-four 44 hectares (109 Acres) in area, which makes it the third largest park in inner-city Sydney. The park comprises large open recreation spaces with distinctive hills that provide 360 degree views over Sydney, wetlands, a sports oval (Alan Davidson Oval), a children's bicycle track, sculptures and a heritage area featuring the remains of brickworks (the remains of the chimneys and brick kilns from the old brickworks site which are being kept as heritage items).
Sydney Park has played an important role in various youth subcultures since its redevelopment - generally without official approval. Throughout the 1990s and to the present day the park is used reasonably regularly for the 'Punks Picnic' - a gathering initially of anarcho-punks from Newtown and neighboring suburbs. Although, some areas in the park allow dogs to run free, there are also several ponds and wetlands that are fenced off and designed to support birdlife and other plants and animals.
I watched this park grow from infancy as we lived (1982 - 1994) no more than a 7 minute walk from entrance to the park. My children grew up running up and down the then pure dirt hills as they developed the fundamental structures of the park :)
I went back today (20th August 2009) and took a series of shots and will share in due time. The circle concrete / brickwork base seen here in the FG is the base for the first steel sculpture placed here on top of the tallest hill in the park. The sculpture was put there back in the late 1980s. I don't known why it was removed :(

Hey Graham,
it is just an old rubbish tip!

Hi Graham,
The lovely Sidney skyline is beautifully framed by the park.
The distant highrises stand out brilliantly against the dramatic blue sky.

Hello Graham,
This point of view is interesting towards the town of Sydney. That gives an idea of the aspect of this modern big city and its futuristic buildings. The photograph is of very good quality. Cheer.
Have a nice day.
Cordially.
