Photographer’s Note
Visiting Melbourne in mid winter was excellent. Expecting very changeable weather and the frustrating ‘four seasons in one day’ effect that the city is famous for, I was surprised to have perfect clear days for the duration of my trip. This view, a classic one taken many thousands of times, shows the city from the southern bank of the Yarra River looking towards the Princess Bridge. The building in the background is Rialto Towers, which houses Melbourne’s original observation deck before the new, taller Eureka Tower loomed above town. You can access both decks still for differing vantages of the city. This frame only shows about ¼ of the city centre. To the left of me is the Eureka Tower and many other large residential buildings on the Southbank, to the right are the Collins Street skyscrapers and behind me is the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Also of note in this frame are Flinders Street Station to the right of the bridge and the edge of Federation Square. This was a great spot to watch the rowers on the river pull up and pack up their boats.
This is my 200th photo on TE :)

Hello Matthew!
That's a very beautiful and truly interesting picture!
The low pov was a great choice! Sharpness, exposure and natural colors are excellent! The composition is effective with quite attractive visual results! I love the reflection of the buildings and bridge on the water surface!
TFS - congratulations!
My warmest regards and greetings from Brazil,

Hi Matt
Yes Melbourne is often surprising in winter and I have often had nice days like this. However the temperatures aren't an incentive to abandoning my European summer every year.
I like your pov as the lines create so much depth. Good cropping too, just enclosing the palm trees and the buildings.
Regards
Nikki

Hi Matt, This is an excellent and interesting POV, taken right down near the river. The sharpness of the buildings, the colours, especially the sky and the foreground planks all come together well. The reflections are a bonus. TFS. Murray.

Hello Matt, I think I know exactly where you were standing when you took this shot, I think I have several from almost the same spot. A beautiful part of Melbourne & well captured, colours, reflections & clarity a just about perfect, that blue Melbourne sky is especially for our visitors, don't believe what you read about our weather, it's beautiful one minute & perfect the next, did I borrow that phase from somewhere?. Hope you enjoyed your stay.
Thanks
Take care
Santo
PS. congratulation on your 200th.

Hi Matt, you chose a good POV for this image of Melb. Inclusion of the boat ramp was a good idea, adding a not often seen element to this view. Your choice of apperture is somewhat surprising, although it seems to have provided a surprising DOF. cheers, Steve
