Photographer’s Note

Visiting Melbourne in mid winter was excellent. Expecting very changeable weather and the frustrating ‘four seasons in one day’ effect that the city is famous for, I was surprised to have perfect clear days for the duration of my trip. This view, a classic one taken many thousands of times, shows the city from the southern bank of the Yarra River looking towards the Princess Bridge. The building in the background is Rialto Towers, which houses Melbourne’s original observation deck before the new, taller Eureka Tower loomed above town. You can access both decks still for differing vantages of the city. This frame only shows about ¼ of the city centre. To the left of me is the Eureka Tower and many other large residential buildings on the Southbank, to the right are the Collins Street skyscrapers and behind me is the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Also of note in this frame are Flinders Street Station to the right of the bridge and the edge of Federation Square. This was a great spot to watch the rowers on the river pull up and pack up their boats.

This is my 200th photo on TE :)
