Photographer’s Note
I went back to Birdlands Reserve for the first time after the summer fires of Feb.2009. Large areas are just blackened tree trunks, burnt terrain denuded of undergrowth. Much of the wildlife had perished and efforts have been under way to rehabilitate the injured birds and marsupials. Much of the reserve is fenced off and penalties apply to anyone setting foot in these areas where there is danger of falling limbs from damaged gumtrees. I knew it would be a sad experience to revisit one of my favourite places, but it is still loved by the local people and even on this foggy, wet morning people were there, reconnecting.
The area you see is quite green. It is near the car park. Further in, it's a bleak show. What concerns me is that most of the nesting places have vanished and soon it will be spring time.

Bonjour Klaudio
Malgré le temps maussade et la pluie, quelques promeneurs profitent de la tranquilité et de la beauté des lieux.
Merci pour le partage et bonne journée.

Ciao Klaudio, how quickly time passes and such tragedies fade form our minds. I needed this reminder. Yes, it is beautiful and green - and wet - such a far cry from last Summer. It makes me sad, but also makes me hopeful that the nests will return soon. Enjoy your week, Lisa.

Hi Klaudio
It's nice to see people reconnecting. I know what you mean. We have had terrible forest fires here with many people having to evacuate their homes. Luckily most homes remained unscathed but there are still more than 800 fires burning in BC alone.

Hi Klaudio, It is nice to see that you went there again. Nature heals easily, I wish and hope that it will not take much time the birds come back. It seems it is calm and peaceful there, it looks green everywhere and rain makes me feel good. Very nice photo with its subject and composition, and your clear notes with nice wordings as usual. TFS, selamlar.

Klaudio,
The note is heartfelt. The framing is nice and the flay light illustrates the gloomy and cold day which Andrew is talking about in his recent email.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Klaudio.
The weather at this moment is similar to that shown in the picture! Although the wind is perhaps much greater today. This brings back memories of the once you took me there, pre-inferno. What I like most is the several depths achieved here, with the gum leaves slightly blurred in the foreground (their presence suggestive of the photographer 'prying' and sheltering below), then the first lot of brownish grasses/reeds, followed by the second and finally the layers of trees, hazy in the rain. The smallish figures provide the colour and movement - it's a nice place to be walkin' in the rain. Your crop reduces the white winter sky to a minimum. The colour tones are so Australian, and it must be strange for a European to see no bare branches in a winter photo. A great tragedy, the fire damage, but give it three years and it'll be back even better, judging from the regeneration I've seen in Mitta Mitta following the fires of a few years ago.
A very nostalgic, melancholy sort of photo, but very well done.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Klaudio,
I like this scene :) it's so emotional, vivid despite the slight rainy mist, and... I can almost feel the wetness - the water which fills everything around.
The landscape might look a bit dull but you managed to capture the scene at the right moment: with people walking in the rain :)
Excellent choice of composition; very good depth. One of the best atmospheric shots which I've seen.
Very best wishes from Moscow,
Elena
PS. I've got your mail - and the cartoon ;) thanks! I'll reply tomorrow!

Hello Klaudio
This is the best of a rainy day!!
You managed so well including the herbs and leaves that frame the hazy decor where human life is represented the size of ants!
Those white umbrellas are really eye catchers.
Hava g'day!

Hello Klaudio,
As your picture and note show, a rainy weather is a good period for this area. Maybe because of this your rainy shot looks rather colorfully and optimistically. Very good job!
Best regards,
Sergiy
