Photographer’s Note
This image was shot about fifteen minutes later than my last posting. The sun was just about to sink below the western horizon which was making the main elements of the shot look a little dark. I wasn’t going to upload this image but my wife walked in just as I was going through the shots and she really liked it. She was saying I’m always posting wide shots and thought for a change something more graphic would be a step in the right direction. She must always be obeyed, you younger married guys will learn this as time goes on.
So here you have the wonderful ANZAC bridge in the foreground, the Sydney harbour bridge and the old Glebe Island swing bridge in the bottom right of centre. The old swing bridge is permanently open now having been replaced by the ANZAC bridge which towers above it. The view is across Black Wattle Bay, which for those of you that have visited Sydney is the location of the Sydney Fish Markets. The markets are just off to the right of frame. It is always a great place for Sunday lunch, a chilled bottle of white wine, and a big plate of fish and chips, yum, hard to beat.
It’s my wife’s fault if you don’t like the shot, but you’ll have to tell her.

Hello Peter,
I'm so glad you've learned to take good advice!
This is such an interesting shot!
The Anzac Bridge, with its bowing legs and web of diagonal lines, makes a strong f/g impact. It's stature is emphasised as it frames the buildings and the Sydney Harbour Bridge, beyond.
Then, the amber light just highlights it!
A fine composition.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Peter,
You have a very clever wife..........you can tell her that ;-)
I like this one more than your previous version. That one was too wide for bringing out all kind of details and those details we see in here. I like how you framed this one with the bridge and the wires, but also the the harbour baybridge in the background and the light what shines on the buildings on the right. A very busy composition, but for me this works very good, especially with the bridge and wires in front.
Bit wooly (right word?) on the contrast and sharpness, but not really disturbing, it's the composition what does the trick here....very good.

Henk

hi Peter
About being almost neighbor today :) that may also mean I can peek with a long telephoto zoom lens and get to see a corner of your house.
The note this time really make me laugh.
I would like to meet your wife. Not that I agree with your understatement or that I must obey the wife for photography, money or anything but when it comes to household matters she pulls all the plugs.
But I do agree with your wife's choice this time. This is better than your previous wide post, to me. That is a good reason why sometimes I carry 70-300mm lens doing landscape!
It is a good thing I like this shot, so the fault lies nowhere. And I am telling the truth. If you are not a good boy, maybe one day she may take back the Tokina gift.
I am not following Henk's comment at all when I say I like this one better than the last post. Because I know the beauty of a cable-stayed bridge with the pylons hanging diagonally in graceful thin line profiles. Plus the pillar of strength.
You also have the coat hanger in good detail although I might try f/16 for depth. The bright warm light helps to give the brightness level and your 1/320s, and especially the light+shadow effect on the pillar/deck and buildings.
I like another thing here. The relative comparison of forms and shapes. The cone shape of the pylons at the FG bridge in contrast with the curved arch of the coat hanger. It takes a good geometry contrast to its meaning.
Honestly speaking, Phwall, it is about time too that you ask your wife to open TE account here.
One last thing. I might try this in vertical format for this shot. Because I love to see the pillar in full, plus the pylons converge at the top! Do you have it in your archive? If not, too bad, but you can always go back again another time, before delpeoples beat you to it :)
tfs, bill

Hi Peter
I couldn't decide between the previous and this one, but I think this one attracts me more. I really like the graphism created by the bridge elements, the perfect 1/2 frame and the city scape behind with the coathanger proudly posing for you in the side light. Really impressive shot
Have a good day and TFS

Hi Peter, Of the two shots I think I also prefer this one. In the first the bridge is perhaps a little lost, whereas in this shot it is well presented. I like the suggestion of a vertical frame too, emphasing the height of the bridge tower. The SHB seen through this bridge is a nice addition to the image. cheers, Steve

Hello Peter! Your wife has a very good taste ... :))) Sunday lunch sounds wonderful, Australian wines are fantastic and sometimes I treat myself with a bottle, chilled as you describe it. You really know how to have a good life. Very nice photo work and I like the wide straight line the bridge gives with the fine things that go up but also the light on the houses is just perfect. Personally I find that Australia has the best light ever and I am not the only one that says that but I guess I told you that before. This is really good, well done. Best regards, Barbara.

Ahhh blame your poor wife! typical! Thankfully, I happen to like it too. And I was just there at the Markets yesterday with the Mama gutzing oysters. Personally, I prefer this photo to the previous posting Pete. Like your better half, the close-up is preferable. I really like the lines of the two Bridges: one vertical the other diagonal. Well done, Lisa.

Hi Peter, The level of detail caught in this photograph is really something. I prefer this to the more distant one previously. The strong lines of metal cables and the Harbour bridge beneath another is a neat way to show this are. TFS. Murray.

Hi Peter,
this is a spcetacular view. The composition really makes a difference. I like that you have detail of one large bridge in the foreground and another one in the background, and the whole frame is used wisely. You have filled it with plenty of various elements, it makes the shot interesting.
The light was difficult surely but in spite of it you managed to create the special atmosphere of an evening.
Beautiful,

Hi Peter,
Our wives only know us better than we know ourselves and let us know this by picking things for us - probably in frustration after waiting for us to get off the dime for so long. My wife has pointed out some of my favorite shots!
I like the detail and graphism (hmmm, is that a word?) of this one. Great lines at the top pointing down to the rest of the detail.
Have a great weekend!

A good mood of the sunset has been captured with a nice composition though the image seems a shortage of definition a little especially around the ropes and the structure of the Sydney harbour bridge. Warm light on the buildings is beautiful.

Hello Peter, perhaps it would be a good idea for you wife to offer her suggestions more often, I agree with her about being a good graphical shot. An interesting & effective composition with the ANZAC bridge in FG having an impact. The old coathanger always looks interesting & king of majestic, well placed in the frame. The golden glow from the setting sun gives it colour & warmth, especially this time of year. Nice one, well done.

Hi peter,
Wow, a tripple layer of Bridge, I can only give credet for one though. Really great POV with a nice close up of the bridge and two just under it. It really feels like I can just walk under it, okay, I take a boat under it. I don't like getting wet and can't walk on water, like the man above or the ancient Chinese Kung Fu Charactors can glide and hope on water :) That would be kind of fun. The shaprness is a little soft, but not bad at all. Have a good day.

Hello Peter,
A well conceived composition of these three bridges, each in a different style. The stays of the bridge in the foreground add an interesting graphical dimension and are mirrored by the Harbour Bridge in the background. I like the warm evening light which brings a sculptured effect to the structures.

I really love this composition, the sunset colors and the great composition full of different elements really bring out to light the different characters of those bridges & their very different architecture.
Unfortunately the horizon seems to be tilted a bit, & the image looks pixelized & over-sharpened, otherwise it would be a top mark.

Hello Peter,
I like the photograph very much in that you juxtaposed the pair of bridges, much as Brenda Elaine (worldcitizen) had done in her post, three bridges.
Your note is engaging, and your wife was right! Moreover, I am happy to know the existence of a bridge celebrating the ANZACs. The "A" in the shape of the pylons must be emblematic of the name.
Warm regards,

Hi Peter.
Greetings from Paris!
Impressive looking shot, quite breathtaking really, of the two bridges. Nice squarish crop, good warm evening light, and great viewpoint. I like the graphical effect of the Anzac bridge's stays. The detail quality is OK, but there's no info on the iso or whether it's an enlarged crop. I wonder if you applied some noise reduction to this one?
Anyway, it's a striking picture, no doubt about that, and you can thank your wife for the suggestion - it certainly does not need to be any 'wider'.

Andrew
