Photographer’s Note
Taken on a base walk of Uluru, this is a detail of a section of the rock.
From wikipedia.
"Uluru, also referred to as Ayers Rock, is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory, central Australia. It lies 335 km (208 mi) south west of the nearest large town, Alice Springs; 450 km (280 mi) by road. Kata Tjuta and Uluru are the two major features of the Uluru - Kata Tjuta National Park. Uluru is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara, the Aboriginal people of the area. It has many springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru is listed as a World Heritage Site."

Very impressive! This looks like a piece of surrealistic art. Excellent sharpness and use of light. I also like the true colors that make this photo so striking. Well Done!
Sincerely,
Kate

Hi Stephen,
Really different perspective on Uluru, and I like the inclusion of the highlighted branches in the foreground as without them the shadowed portion of the rock would have been too much. I was amazed when I visited it at how different and varied Uluru was close up than it appears from a distance.
Cheers

hello Stephen,
a special place indeed, and I like a lot the fairly abstract way you show it, the light falling on the trees in the foregroun create and impression that they are perfoming on a state under direct spotlight. I might prefer even less sky, may be a square format, to add to the abstraction. still, great shot, my compliments.
best,
Kristine

Hi Stephen.
A very striking picture, well thought out in composition and a well controlled exposure. I like the fact you didn't get any over-exposure of the gnarled trees. It really reminds me of a painting. The undulating diagonal of the rock's surface is pleasing. Very nicely done.

Andrew

Hello Stephen! I love the light on the naked trees and how the shadow moves over the famous rock and yet there is still the color there we all love so much about Ayers Rock and the outback with some sunlit parts. Maybe yes, as Kristine says, a little too much sky but the sky also belongs to the outback, isn't it, it shows the space out here. Very nice work, I always like showing something but not too much. Suits my taste although I admire both sides. Best regards, Barbara.

Stephen,
A particularly effective use of light and shade here. Well seen and well realised composition; to my eye, far more effective and evocative than the "standard" view.

A nice take on the harsh but beautiful desert environment, Stephen. Your fine composition makes the branches really stand out. The bold colors (perhaps slightly oversaturated??) give the image strength and power. Regards, Ken.
