Green Again Photo | TrekEarth

Photographer’s Note

Remember this photo and the severe drought that left Wivenhoe Dam and Somerset Dam at 19% and 31% of its capacity respectively? Remember how the ground was dry and the grass dead brown?

Today, after a very wet November and, so far, December months the situation has changed dramatically and the fields around the dams are lush green with plenty of wild flowers, the dams are in much better shape with Somerset Dam at 91% capacity and Wivenhoe Dam at 33% and the all region looks great and full of hope again.

The main picture is a wide view (stitch of 3 photos) over the Somerset Lake. In WS1 is a view of the dam through the security grille and in WS2 two power boats during a speed competition on Somerset Lake.

Daria uma bela 'large version', António. Pelos vistos tem chovido tanto aí como aqui se bem que as temperaturas devem ser muito mais agradáveis aí. A verdade é que esta vista é mais bonita do que a outra precisamente por todo estes verdes a encherem o 1º plano. Gosto da profundidade da foto, pois vê-se até muito ao longe. O céu também está bonito e as nuvens também contribuem para o efeito de profundidade. O WS dos barcos é uma surpresa e uma bela cena de acção.

Hello Antonio! Wow I am glad to see this green color back to this area. Living in a wet country I only experienced a dry period twice when the lakes dropped and many dead fish came up. Very nice the dark blue lake and the soft green, not strong yet but maybe with some further rain drops it might come back to full life. Interesting note, lovely photo with the clouds "floating" along. Best regards, Barbara.

Mhh...I can feel the green smell you have cap there and indeed the panorama is beautiful. I like the nature colours combination between the superb blue and the white clouds and green field 'again'.

Não podia estar mais de acordo que esta foto daria uma boa "large view". Recordo perfeitamente a seca do teu poste neste local e agora um lago cheio de vida que até serve para a pratica desportiva. O tamanho postado é muito pequeno para os meus olhos. (o meu monitor está para 1280x800)
Os Ws são muito úteis para mostrar o local mais perto e noutra perceptiva.O pov e cores são muito boas, mas um posto mt pequeno para mim :)

What a contrast from your earlier shot, the green vista with the almost full dam shows what an amazing difference water can make to the landscape.
Lovely clean shot, with just enough pola effect, the fluffy white clouds hanging in the sky look wonderful.
We have just recently come off water restrictions here in Sydney, yippee.

From Portugal to Australia, well that is a long migration way. But I envy your various travels for work, all over the world and seeing so many aspects of life and culture.

And after all that, you still choose to be in Australia, albeit upside down :)

I like this wide view, you have presented it very nicely and showing a good soft color tone. It is very hard for me to imagine summer in December upside down after spending 9 years in Canada and the rest in equatorial zone, but I surely intend to see for myself how it works out to be upside down in 2009.

bonito como as nuvens parecem se reunir no horizonte, como se tivessem combinado um encontro lá longe.. bela foto com belas cores e luz. Aqui estamos com problemas com a sêca enquanto perto de nós uma região inteira desabou debaixo de cheias bíblicas. Enfim, tempo louco em toda a parte.

É magnífico este lugar. Não sei se se pode nadar nestas águas, se existem crocodilos ou bichos perigosos. Aqui será agradável andar a cavalo. Para navegar já vi as embarcações no Workshop. Costuma vir para este lugar? ( Na minha galeria reparei na foto um pouco turva. Por vezes consigo de imediato fazer um reparo e desta vez tive que esperar pelo tempo regulamentar. No início deveria haver mais tolerância de tempo ).

A lovely shot that works well in a wide landscape format. I suspect you were at the wide end of your 17-55mm and it has vignetted the image slightly in the corners, but it is not too troublesome and actually draws attention to the interior of the image.

A good photo to show the change in conditions. 2 years ago the dams were hovering around between 15 - 20% capacity. Now with the combined dam levels at 75% and now that we all have tanks in our backyards - the word 'drought' is no longer in our vocabularies! Tfs, Marlene

Indeed it is a strange picture but you pointed out the drought. The colors are a bit unnatural but if you say they have been like that, then it must be like this. Otherwise the framing of shot is simply great. Sharpness and DOF are excellent. Well done
