Swan River Perth, a photo from Western Australia, West

Photographer's Note

A much wider angled view (18mm) of Perth City taken from South Perth, with the sun setting at left at 5:47 pm. I've used flash here, to fill in the shadows on the tree & grass & it has improved, rather than damaged the shot. No hard shadows, & no reflected glare spots, which often spoils flash shots.

The Swan River is wide, clean & shallow, unlike the muddy brown Brisbane & Yarra Rivers, in the eastern States (Qld & Vic).

like the composition here, the tree is so perfectly placed and beckons you into the image and frames the view so majestically. I love the light and the glass like effect of the water. Executed magnificently and a quality presentation.

Hi Chris,

The reflections on the water are assets to the composition. The distance between the tree and the highrise buildings is giving depth to the scene. The point of view is showing a panorama of this area of Perth. The late afternoon light is enhancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

J'aime beaucoup l'arbre sur la gauche qui semble vouloir nous faire découvrir le panorama que nous offre la ville en arrière plan. Un très beau plan d'eau qui ajoute une touche de douceur à l'ensemble.

Hi Chris,
A shot worth sharing with the use of flash. I love the exposure of the sky which is so symetrical with the water in blue colour. What I still miss is the wider angle though the same has been discribed by you.

Interesting note. I wouldn't think about using the flash here, but what I know about photography, nothing. Nice composition with the eucalyptus tree. Beautiful panorama of the town on the other shore. Nice calm atmosphere. Swan river - nice name.

This is an immaculate photo, the silvery blue light on the water is amazing and I like the inclusion of the gum tree which provides a natural frame for part of the image.
