Photographer’s Note

Today it is Anzac Day here in Australia and in New Zealand. It is the day we remember those who have paid the ultimate price in the service of our countries so that we who remain can enjoy the freedoms we now have.

Freedoms? Whoa, back up there…

This photo is possibly illegal as I did not have permission from the media office of the relevant authority to take it. Not to mention concerns about terrorism. The guards in blue are preparing to come over to tell me to move on. In Australia you are not supposed to take photos in national parks without permission. We cannot take photos at public swimming pools and parents can’t take photos at school carnivals. There is always a good reason of course, but the list is growing.

The freedoms our forebears died for are being slowly taken away from us. If we do nothing to preserve them the day will come when it will be possible to say, "Yes, unfortunately they did die in vain."

Lest we forget.
